History
editThe university was established in 1419 without the Theological faculty by confirmation of pope Martin V. and is thus the oldest university in the Northern Europe. The three founding faculties were the Faculty of law, medicine and Facultas artium which is today the philso.... faculty.
Over the centuries numerous of notable students and professors have had ties with the university, such as the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, the archeologist Heinrich Schliemann, or the philosopher Moritz Schlick.
