Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of The Republic of Armenia edit

History edit

Armenian energy system has its 100-year history, during which the "ArmEnergo" department (which was formed in November, 1936, with the decision of Soviet Union) played its important role. The aim of "ArmEnergo" was to manage and control the exploitation and development of electric stations and networks. In that department, there were included 2 HPPs of Yerevan, HPP of Gyumri, "DzoraHPP" and other technical services. Afterwards, "ArmEnergo" became the official body eligible to control whole energy system of Armenia. After the collapse of Soviet Union, Armenian economic reforms and energetic crisis required new control mechanisms. In order to overcome this, in 1992 there was created the Minisrty of Energetics and Fuel of The Republic of Armenia. Then, in August 4 of 1995 by the decision of Armenian government, the ministry was renamed as the Ministry of Energetics of The Republic of Armenia, which lately, in 18 April of 2008 by the decree of Armenian president was renamed as Ministry of Energetics and Natural Resources of The Republic of Armenia. Then, the former one was named as the Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of The Republic of Armenia. Today, the main aim of the activity of the ministry is to develop and maintain the governance policy of The Republic of Armenia in the sphere of energy infrastructures and natural resources.
