Péter Rudolf (15 October 1959) is a Hungarian stage actor, movie actor, voice actor, director, stage director and screenwriter.

Life

edit

Rudolf was born in Budapest. He is the son of two teachers, Ottó Rudolf and Éva Galamb. He spent his childhood in Őrszentmiklós, Vácduka and Vác. He was fourteen years old when he moved to Budapest again.[1]

He has been married to Eszter Nagy-Kálózy, who works as an actress, since 1990 and they have three children, Szonja Rudolf, Olivér Rudolf and Flóra Quintus from Nagy-Kálózy’s previous marriage. His daughters are also stage actresses, and his son works as a director.[2]

Education

edit

He graduated from Móricz Zsigmond High School, and in 1979, after a year of military service, he was accepted to the University of Theatre and Film Arts in the class of László Márton, Péter Valló and Imre Montágh. He spent his traineeship at the Comedy Theatre of Budapest, where he played Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a fourth-year student. He graduated from the university in 1983.[1]

Career

edit

He started making movies while he was still in college, and during this period he played important roles in critically acclaimed movies such as Cha-Cha-Cha[3] (directed by János Kovácsi and released in 1982), Szerencsés Dániel (Daniel Takes a Train[4], directed by Pál Sándor and released in 1983) and Jób lázadása (The Revolt of Job[5], directed by Imre Gyöngyössy and Barna Kabay and released in 1983).[1]

After graduating in 1983, he joined the Comedy Theatre[6], where he was a member until 1998. While playing at the theatre he was working as a voice actor, appearing on radio shows and playing in Hungarian movies. After quitting the theatre, he was working as a freelancer.[1]

The first theatre production he directed was Dühöngő Ifjúság (Look Back in Anger) in 1992, which played regularly at the Pesti Theatre and was so successful that it sold out for years.[1]

He became a member of Centrál Theatre[7] from 2015 to 2016. The first movie he directed was the first part of the movie Üvegtigris (Glass Tiger), which he co-directed with Iván Kapitány. He directed the second and third parts of the movie. Between 2007 and 2011 he was one of the main leads in the television show Beugró (Stand-In, a short-form improvisational comedy television series). He became the director of the Comedy Theatre in 2021 and has held the position ever since.[8]
