Request!

edit

Hello, if you are reading this I need your help. Dusti has gone, see here for a history. So I need someone to take over my adoption. This is the history, if you are willing to help me please leave a reply to this or post on my talkpage. Many thanks. --FGWQPR (talk) 21:22, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to the Adoption Program!!

edit

First thing is first. I want you to watch this page, as it will be our main way of communicating to each other during this time. If you don't know how to watch this page, up above, you should see four tabs, one says "user page", "discussoin", "edit" and "watch". Click on watch. When you do this, you will be able to see the page in your watchlist. This is also up above, depending on what background you have. If you have the standard background, it is up in the right hand corner labeled, My Watchlist.

  • Please keep your editor review open during this program. It will allow others to see how you have built your knowledge and understanding of Wiki policies.
Hello, I9 have watched it, and will check my watchlist reguarly.

1st Task

edit

Recently, we have had a little trouble with a distruptive editor, Britishrailclass91. Please could you have a look at what has gone and see if what I have done is OK. It would be really helpful and a good satrt point.

You did ok, however, you need to remember to keep your cool. That will be the main thing that we will be working on for the first day or so. What you said was borderline, but still you were still Civil. Good job. What I want you to do is look through your talkpage and tell me what happened and what caused you to get blocked. What have you learned from this? What would you do differently now? Dusticomplain/compliment 16:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Well now he has said he is leaving Wikipedia, I think he may, as he did before, create another account, is their anyway I can contact the Admins and alert them of my concerns. --FGWQPR (talk) 16:19, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
He has a right to make a new account, as long as he is not blocked or banned. Dusticomplain/compliment 16:35, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, I will explain it from the start.

  • I nominated First Great Western for GA.
  • The reviewer failed it without giving a chance for comments/edits.
  • I discussed with them and asked if they would pick it back up again as I had made the changes.
  • They came back and said to add references.
  • I said I could get it done by the evening, I could of, I was doing nothing, sitting at home and was looking for references.
  • The Islander came in, accused me of having a Conflict of Interest as I was a member of FGW's PR team as I was 'rushing' it

thorugh the GA process, more a case of I had too much time.

  • I told him what I thought of that.
  • He kept arguing with me so I edited his talkpage and userpage.
  • He reverted them both.
  • I got warned again for no Personal Attacks.
  • I gave him a final warning for making a personal attack.
  • He reverted it and told me unless I stopped I would be banned.
  • I did it again.
  • I got banned.
  • People were saying things about me on my talkpage so I wrote. FUCK OFF YOU CRAZY BASTARDS.
  • Mine and their comments were removed.
  • My talkpage was protected.
  • I went away from wikipedia.
  • I came back a couple of days ago.
  • I put in my editor review.
  • Keeper67 put his nose in again and brought the whole subject back up.
  • We agreed to forget it.

We ended up here. --FGWQPR (talk) 16:19, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Without meaning to butt-in at all (if you'd prefer me never to take a look here again, tell me, and I won't), you haven't answered the question. Do you believe that your block was 100% unjustified, and that you were 100% innocent, or did you play some part in the matter? If so, what did you do wrong, and how could you have avoided the block? If you had to arbitrarily 'portion out' the blame, in terms of percentages, how much would I, you and Keeper get? 33% / 33% / 33% or something else? Again, I only want to help here, but if you don't want me to get involved anymore, ask (in a civil manor :P ). TalkIslander 16:21, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
What have you learned and yes, I would prefer that you answer Islander's comments above. Also, Islander, if you can, please ask me on my talk page before posting a comment here, I do appreciate the question though :). Dusticomplain/compliment 16:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I believe my block was fully justified and I admit I played some part in the matter. I know what I did wrong, I ignored the warnings, if I had listened to the warnings I could have avoided the block. I would give the blame 99% me and 1% Keeper. Keeper did say some things which I felt were a little hurtfull and feel if he had maybe been a bit more Civil I wouldn't have got so angry and carried on. I must remeber it is two weeks ago it happened and putting it behind me is getting ever closer.

Good start in the right direction. I will wait for Keeper's question, then we will move on to the second task. Also, please remember to sign all posts, anywhere except in articles, with four tilda's (~~~~) . Dusticomplain/compliment 17:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Keeper and his nose

edit

I very much like how this is going. I'm a strong believer in open communication and moving on past previous difficulties. Thanks for allowing me to post here. I've had bad days here, and I've been fortunate that those that I've slighted have looked past my slights to help me. Kudos to FGWQPR for being willing to be open to improvements, kudos to Dusti for being willing to help where help is needed, and kudos to Islander for continuing to be an example of civility. FGWQPR, I apologize to you for saying something that you took as hurtful. It was never my intention to be hurtful, and I hope you accept my apology. I do have one very small beef, and that has to do with the "Keeper67 (sic) put his nose in again" that you typed above. After I had blocked you for incivility and disruption, I had moved on past this. Once your block lifted, I didn't "stick my nose in". If I recall correctly, when your block lifted, you posted to my talkpage, not the other way around. Your first action was to remove the whole thread from my talk. Another editor quickly reverted you. Your next action was to ask me where you could go to complain about me. I didn't "stick" my nose in anything, I simply responded to you that you didn't have much of a case. Again, I've put this behind me, it's just a wording issue for me at this point. I work very hard around here to help out where needed, and I believe I act fairly. I can also be very direct, and that is sometimes misread, and for that I apologize. I don't mince words. At no point in recent memory though have I ever been angry or stressed about this place. Life's too short. The pay here sucks. I edit for entertainment, and because I happen to feel that the potential of Wikipedia is amazing, and I strongly believe that it is the best encyclopedia in the world. My advice to you, as you go through Editor Review, this adoption process, and throughout your editing: Enjoy it! It is not stressful unless you let it be stressful. I'm glad you are here, you are an excellent writer with a lot of knowledge to share. Don't let this place drag you down! There will always be some editor somewhere that gets under your skin, don't sink to their level. Sorry this is turning into more of an editor review, I guess I have been known to get a bit wordy. And I'm an extremely fast typer...Cheers FGWQPR - wishing you well. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:43, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, I except your apology and would like to apoligise for everything I have said to you and lets put it behind us. --FGWQPR (talk) 20:58, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
As a wise editor once said to me, agreed! Happy editing, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:05, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

2nd Task

edit

What I want you to do now is to begin to do what is called Recent Changes Patroll. This is where you click on recent changes underneath interaction on the left hand side of your screen. You can see all of the recent changes to articles, user talk pages, ect... I usually look for the red numbers, which indicates that a large portion of text has been removed. This is an easy way for you to revert vandalism and get your edit counts higher. If you do come across vandalism, you should leave a warning template on the responsible user's talk page. Just do this for now, this will allow you to interact with other users and practice on being civil. Do you accept? Dusticomplain/compliment 17:39, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I do, I have done this on a couple of occasions before. I did it a couple of days ago I think. I warned several people, got one banned for repeated vandalism and got one nonsense page speedily deleted. --FGWQPR (talk) 21:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I know that you have exactly one deleted edit, which isn't that great for someone wanting to pursue Adminship. You need to get this count up, which will be in the third task. For now, if you will, do the RC patroll and warn vandals. I would like you to give me links to those you warn, or at least tell me how many you warn during your RC patroll time. Dusticomplain/compliment 12:20, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I just reverted edits to Millport, Alabama by 207.157.64.190 and as they had received a final warning I reported them to the administrators. --FGWQPR (talk) 16:51, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Very good job...do you like doing this? Dusticomplain/compliment 16:53, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes I do like doing this. And I reverted edits to Tom Monaghan and warned 64.81.131.230.

Now I found Incheol shin and was not too sure of it, does not look that good so I put an AFD tag on it. --FGWQPR (talk) 17:01, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Close the AFD, and tag it by placing {{db-bio}} . This article is a bio about a person, but doesn't assert significance. Dusticomplain/compliment 17:02, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Done.--FGWQPR (talk) 17:09, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Reverted edits to Diamondback terrapin by 170.177.27.11 and reported them as they have been blocked before. --FGWQPR (talk) 17:09, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Freeze!!! You cannot just report a user to AIV if they have vandalized and were blocked before. They still have to go through the warning phase, i.e. a level 1, level 2, ect. Dusticomplain/compliment 17:15, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry.--FGWQPR (talk) 17:21, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I hve reverted several edits to Beijing World Park by 123.236.26.237 who I gave a warning for test edits as I beleive that is all it was. 59.161.53.103 made several which I beleive were vandalism but certainly not encyclopedic and I gave them a Level 3 warning. --FGWQPR (talk) 17:21, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

It's ok, I placed a warning on the talk page and your report at AIV was denied, due to insufficent warning. Always place a warning on the talk page. You are doing great so far though, smile!! Dusticomplain/compliment 17:23, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I have reverted edits to Melting pot by 71.39.127.70 but am unsure whether to report them as they have recieved a final warning in February and not been banned or give a final warning again.--FGWQPR (talk) 17:28, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

The final warning is now considered dull, warn them with a level 2 vandalism. Dusticomplain/compliment 17:26, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I wasn't sure.--FGWQPR (talk) 17:28, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Your welcome, feel free to ask me anytime before you report to WP:AIV. Anything else that you would like to work on? Are you ready to merge into WP:AFD? Dusticomplain/compliment 17:31, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I think so, I am going offline now and should be back about 8 wiki time. I will carry on with this and do some Article for Deletion. Task 3 I guess.
This was an easy task, as RC Patroll can get boring sometimes, but there's a full Wiki out there to be explored. Onwards with task 3. Also, just to let you know, I am only on usually from 12 - 5 PM weekdays. I'll have more opportunity in a month or so to be on longer and on weekends, but for now, its just 12 - 5. (for time diff, its 1:41PM here. Dusticomplain/compliment 17:42, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Task 3

edit

This one will go more slowly than the others, as WP:AFD is a complex process that no one, including myself, may ever fully understand. I have gotten myself in a couple of binds over AFD, so be careful. For a few days, in order to get this down as much as you can, I want you to participate in AFD's, commenting on them and looking up Wiki policy. Dusticomplain/compliment 17:42, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay. My time is one hour ahead of wiki time and I should be online wiki time 3-11 wiki time. Monday-Thursdays. Later Fridays and varying Saturdays and Sundays. I will be offline until about 9pm tommorow so can't get started yet. --FGWQPR (talk) 21:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry

edit

Sorry I have been away the last few days, I have had lots of work to do but should be able to be on more reguarly now.--FGWQPR (talk) 21:12, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

That's ok, I've been busy as well. How are things going? Dusticomplain/compliment 17:53, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Fine, but it is very much going to be on when I can for a couple more days.--FGWQPR (talk) 20:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
