Biography

edit

Robert DeLong was born and raised in Seattle. As a child, DeLong played with his father's drum kit, and taught himself guitar and piano. In 2004, when he was 18, he moved to Azusa to attend Azusa Pacific University, where he studied music, production and engineering, and played in several bands. He moved to the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles after graduation.

The Seattle-based bands Death Cab for Cutie, Pedro the Lion and Modest Mouse, along with Radiohead, Boards of Canada, jazz musician Pat Metheny and producer Brian Eno all played a role in DeLong’s musical evolution as a songwriter, and deepened his interest in electronic music. http://www.ocregister.com/entertainment/delong-330592-music-says.html http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/2013/02/robert_delong_just_movement_gl.php

DeLong describes his performances, which involve drum pads, a drum kit, keyboard, game controllers, laptops and MIDI interfaces as “a hybrid electronic performance. I do sequencing on the fly and looping. I also play the instruments over it and I sing, so it’s really a lot of different things. I wish I could describe it better than this – but it’s a performance experience and I’m definitely not a DJ.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jon-chattman/a-sides-with-jon-chattman_b_2677907.html

Glassnote Records founder Daniel Glass heard DeLong play in a club in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles and signed him to his label. http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/2013/02/robert_delong_just_movement_gl.php
