UNT Charter

The Charter of the Texas Normal College and Teachers' Training Institute was filed in June 1891 with the Texas State Department. Capital was $10,000. The directors were Robert Henry Chilton, MD (1844–1901), and his brother, Joshua Crittenden Chilton (1852–1896), its founding president, and Henry Frederick Schweer (1850–1931) of Denton.[1] In 1880, Robert Chilton, had become the first eye, ear, nose, and throat physician in Dallas. Jesse A. Sanders was secretary.

Temporary quarters

While waiting a year before the first facility was built on the original purchased 160 acres (plus 10 acres donated by the city), classes were held in the Dawson Building.
