Charity (Current)

edit

The band often works with charitable organisations internationally. This includes Wellhouse and 826 National in Michigan, Teenage Cancer Trust in the UK and Headspace in Australia. Every year on Christmas Day the band makes their entire catalogue of music available for free and asks for donations to a charity of their choosing.[1][2][3][4][5]

2011

edit

During Christmas of 2011, the band opened up their catalogue for free and donated all profits to 826michigan, a non-profit located in the band's home state.[2]

2012

edit

In January of 2012, La Dispute toured the United Kingdom and donated all of the profits to Teenage Cancer Trust.[2]

During the band's Australian tour in February, the collected donations at their shows to benefit headspace, a mental health initiative.[2]
In April of 2012, the band announced that they would do another charity project benefitting 826michigan. This time it was with a hand-selected package of items called Conversations made by members of the band, writers from 826michigan, and friends of the band. Brad Vander Lugt described the limited edition packet this way:

  • “Conversations” – an audio interview with Jordan about the stories and themes presented in Wildlife. The interview is also coupled with movements from Chad’s “Mixtapes” (which were ideas recorded on a dictaphone that would later shape some of the songs on Wildlife). Everything is open for interpretation by the listener, of course, but it does give a little more insight into the concept of the record.
  • “Snapshots” — a zine of polaroids I’ve taken on various tours and studio sessions surrounding Wildlife.
  • Screen printed poster designed by Mr. Adam Vass.
  • 4 postcards: a Departure, a Letter, a Poem, a Broken Jar.
  • The 826michigan OMNIBUS Vol. 2 — A fantastic and very unique collection of short stories and poems written collaboratively by 826michigan students. (Seriously, it’s awesome. There’s a story called A Shark Named Pistachio.)
  • a select few will also include our “First Drafts + Sketches” zine.

There are only 150 of these packets, and when they’re gone, that’s it. $20 each. All proceeds go to 826michigan.[2]
