Niños del Cerro are a Chilean rock band formed in La Florida, Santiago, in 2012. The group consists of lead singer and guitarist Simón Campusano, guitarist Ignacio Castillo, drummer José Mazurett, bassist Felipe Villarrubia and keyboardist Diego Antimán. They are considered one of the most important bands of Santiago "pop de guitarras" mid-2010s indie scene.[1]
Origins
editSimón Campusano founded Niños del Cerro in 2012, together with Ignacio Castillo and other friends, while studying at a school near Cerro San Ramón, in the commune of La Florida, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile.[2] Of the members eventually only Campusano and Castillo remained, and in 2014 they were joined by José Mazurett on drums and Felipe Villarubia on bass.[3][4] During this time they uploaded their first two songs through the SoundCloud platform and, according to Campusano, they recorded a couple of extended plays that were never released.[4][5]
