Assumptions are things assumed to be true in a domain of reasoning, and often at its most fundamental level. For example, that all matter is composed of earth, water, air, fire, and aether. Reasoning demands assumptions to get off the ground, so these are kept to a minimum to minimize endless debate.
, whether explicit or implicit. However, they are often given different names which hides their questionable truth status. Eventually, they are taken for granted and lost to the implicit.
Initial assumptions allow an argument to get off the ground, concluding assumptions can define a line of research, and many other assumptions influence day-to-day decision making. This category does not suggest that any assumption is false, only that at times, not questioning or uncovering these assumptions and their domains can lead to falsehood and ignorance, and of course, needless disagreement. Assumptions are a possible source of conflict.
