editBPS Bioscience, Inc. is an ISO 9001:2015-certified developer and manufacturer of recombinant proteins, assay kits, cell lines, and lentiviruses used for drug discovery.[1] A privately held company founded in 2005 by Henry Zhu, Ph.D., its mission is to advance new scientific discoveries that lead to therapies by creating innovative solutions for research. Its focus areas are immunotherapy, epigenetics, coronaviruses, CRISPR, cell signaling, and others, providing 4000+ high quality research tools, including over many unique products not found elsewhere. Highly active in developing new content, the company launches products weekly. BPS Bioscience can supply products in large-scale bulk quantities, as well as through contract and custom manufacturing. The company also provides biochemical and cell-based screening services using their in-house developed assay systems.[2]
History
editBPS Bioscience started by developing hard-to-make recombinant proteins and protein complexes related to epigenetics and cell signaling that were not readily available commercially.[3] The biofunctional proteins were then applied to the development of biochemical assay kits, which are now provided in over seven different formats, including chemiluminescence, colorimetric, fluorogenic, TR-FRET, fluorescence polarization, AlphaLISA®, and more.[4] More recently, the company has expanded its expertise to recombinant cell lines, introduced in 2010, and lentivirus tools, introduced in 2018, further enabling biochemical and cell-based research. As the COVID-19 pandemic began to escalate in early 2020, BPS Bioscience was one of the first companies to begin providing recombinant proteins, assay kits, recombinant cell lines, and pseudo-lentiviruses for critical research in drug and vaccine development against SARS-CoV-2.[5] In 2021, BPS Bioscience moved into a 38,000 square foot state-of-the-art laboratory and office building in the biotech hub area of Sorrento-Mesa in San Diego, CA.[6] As of the end of 2021, BPS Bioscience products have been cited in the literature over 2000 times.[7] The BPS Bioscience motto is “Scientist Founded, Scientist Driven,” referring to the company’s origination by a scientist aiming to fulfill the ever-advancing needs of the scientific community.
