Dushu Lake (Chinese: 独墅湖) is a fresh water lake located in southern part of Suzhou Industrial Park, with an area of about 9.48 square kilometers. Since 2000s, Suzhou Dushu Lake Higher Education Town was gradually formed on the east bank.[1] Dushu Lake Tunnel goes through it.[2] Dushu Lake is connected to the Jinji Lake by two waterways, and connects the Wusong River via Huodi Pond to the Grand Canal. It is North bank is the location of the Kempinski Hotel Suzhou.

In 2001, archaeologists found more than 600 wells from ancient times underneath Dushulake, further verifying historical records that indicates existence of human activity from Neolithic Era to Northern Song Dynasty around the area. [3] The findings proved human activity in the Fanxietang Area (泛斜塘地区) 5500 years ago.[3] Meantime, the 2-month archaeology activity also found culture relics which were collected and stored under the Suzhou government.

Dushu Lake Tunnel edit
Construction began in May, 2006 and being open to traffic since October, 2007.[4] The Dushu Lake Tunnel is the first and longest project that connects city bridge and underwater tunnel in mainland China.[4] Dushu Lake Tunnel connects East-South-Ring Highway Interchange and Xinghu Street in Suzhou Industrial Park with full length of 7.37km.[5]
The Second Dushu Lake Tunnel edit
Aiming for ease the traffic flow in Dushu Lake Tunnel, The Second Dushu Lake Tunnel is estimated to be open to traffic by the end of 2021.[6] Connecting Wuzhong District and Suzhou Industrial Park, The Second Dushu Lake Tunnel has a full length of 3.33km and it's a dual-direction underwater tunnel.[7] The tunnel could shorten commuting time from Suzhou Dushu Lake Higher Education Town to Guoxiang (郭巷) from 30 minutes to 5 minutes.[8]
