editThe idea came to mind from a Hangouts producer Joslyn Zittle who thought of the idea of her American show would be 'an awesome hit' to start expanding the show worldwide. Hangouts cast member Jade Ramsey said in an Instagram post she liked the idea of her friend's and eventually said there are talks with American producers 2 weeks later on a possible series. On 24th August 2015, the spin-off was greenlighted by CBN and they confirmed it was entering cast auditions and was in the works with the first half of the season 1 script written already. The following day, the BBC said they would be airing the American show one day after an each new episode airs in America. It was confirmed the series would consist of 6 episodes. News went quiet for a while until the 4th November 2015, where it was confirmed the shooting location would be in LA; though there were rumours beforehand when seeing multiple film crew at the scenes. The rest of the cast was announced in the premiere episode to 'excite' all their new coming fans.
2016 to present
editFilming for the first season began in January 2016. The show was almost immediately renewed for a second season at CBN and in the UK for the BBC. Two further seasons, 3 and 4, were commissioned a week after season 2 ended although there were mixed feelings about the ending of the second season.
The fourth season was greenlit 1 month later in September 2019. Filming began in December 2019. Due to a huge storm throughout LA, filming was postponed 5 days after filming commenced. On day 4, Margot Robbie was filming a scene in rainy conditions and where the wind was slowly getting stronger and more rapid. The filming crew said to film two more scenes after Robbie's and they would postponed rest of production until the storm had mostly passed. However, during her scene, an enormous tropical tree branch fell just behind Robbie, seconds away from what could have been fatal. She was shaken by the event as filming equipment was lost or damaged when the winds got worse and the situation turned into an
