arrived 13 June 1831, Stirling Castle from Greenock, Scotland with many other workers under the care of the Rev John Dunmore Lang.[1][2]

Cabinet maker, then hotelier, living Ashfield, then retiring to Carss Cottage after his wifes death.[3]

1853-10 John Croft has 4 parcels of land, 18 (119a), 20 (60a), 21 (88a) and 26 (119a). The Govt Gazette says 119,60,88 @1/0/0and 119 @ 1/1/0=124/19/0arp.[4]

1863 Carss buys land.
