Capital and main settlement

edit
  • Portree[1], a town, bold on the standard A-Z, bold on the Mini A-Z, on OS county level, on the A-Z route planner, bot settlement, census locality

Other OS settlements

edit
  • Lusta. That needs added back as a separate village. Quite a big place

All are on the standard A-Z unless stated otherwise.

  • Achachork[2] That is ok. It has 40 odd houses. Most built in the last 10 years of so.  Y
  • Achnacloich[3] It has more than 14. Currently a redirect and a wee port. Can be salvaged. Y
  • Achtalean, not on standard A-Z. Likely redirect. Possibly a former clearence village. Surrounded by other villages that are relatively close.  N
  • Aird[4][5], on the Mini A-Z That is ok. Needs the reference.  Y
  • The Aird Couldn't locate this. Should probably redirect to Aird of Sleat  N Note that this is at NG4052 but there is another in Kilmuir so maybe an article or redirect should be at The Aird, Snizort?
  • Annishader[6], not on standard A-Z. Right next to Kensaleyre and redirected there. Scottish-places was years behind when I created the original list and in some aspects it still is. Lack of funding. Redirect can either stand or go, but both sides qualify as a villages. [7] Redirect is probably best at the moment.  Y
  • Ardroag It is right next to Dunvegan. Ok as a redirect.  Y
  • Ardtreck, not on standard A-Z There is 16 houses up that road as it head towards the point and lighthouse and it has a road sign at cutoff. That could be village.  Y
  • Ardvasar[8], on the Mini A-Z, on OS county level. That is ok. it is huge. Y
  • Armadale[9]
  • Ardmore[10], not on standard A-Z. Already probably covered under Harlosh. It has only has 6-8 houses is a very small cul-de-sac and is right next to that village. Likely a redirect.  N
  • Ashaig, not on standard A-Z. Likely created as it has industry and an airport. Big article. Right next to Lower Breakish. Unlikely to redirected.  Y
  • Balgown, Bracadale, not on standard A-Z. 100 metres to Struan. Dud.  N
  • Balgown, Kilmuir[11], bold on the standard A-Z It is a location, not even a feature. Feature would be a mountain, a point, or a tidal flats, or a plateau for example. Possibly a clearance village.  N
  • Balmacqueen[12] Possibly a redirect from Kimaluag. Only six or eight houses and some of them look like outbuildings. Probably borderline.  Y
  • Balmeanach, Bracadale [13], not on standard A-Z. Really needs an article to cover that area and Caroy at the top of Loch Caroy. There is no article for that as well. Easily 30-40 house.  Y
  • Balmeanach, Kilmuir, not on standard A-Z

  • Balnaknock. Only three houses. Can be recreated as a clearance village article with 20-30 remain of house and remains of Castle Ewen. Coolio.  Y
  • Bay [15] Not got a public road to it and only four houses.  N
  • Bernisdale[16], on the Mini A-Z. Added the reference.  Y

  • Borve [19][20] There is about 40-50 houses. Its grown.  Y
  • Bracadale [21][22], bold on the standard A-Z, on the Mini A-Z. OK as modern village. Y Insufficient details in Canmore for clearance village article. Mention in the former.

Not OS settlements

edit

Although these aren't OS settlements the Gazetteer for Scotland lists them as settlements and has an article on them. All are on the standard A-Z unless stated otherwise.

  • Some of these might be clearance villages. Check on Google maps if you see the outline. If article present, then houses would have been counted. scope_creepTalk 16:32, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Other places on the Gazetteer for Scotland

edit

Those at https://www.scottish-places.info/parishes/pardetails346.html https://www.scottish-places.info/parishes/pardetails321.html https://www.scottish-places.info/parishes/pardetails281.html https://www.scottish-places.info/parishes/pardetails203.html https://www.scottish-places.info/parishes/pardetails182.html https://www.scottish-places.info/parishes/pardetails266.html that are on the island but don't have articles on the Gazetteer for Scotland. None are on the standard A-Z unless stated otherwise.

Other Canmore

edit

None are on the standard A-Z unless stated otherwise. Canmore is an archaeological recording site. These are likely locations or clearance villages or bronze age villages, with their names left as localities. Field of heads, that sort of thing. scope_creepTalk 00:25, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
