History

edit

Early history

edit

Tysta Mari started out during the summer 2005 by a group of young musicians in southern Stockholm, Sweden.[1]. The music was inspired by classic punk-rock and the lyrics were written in their native tongue Swedish. Although the lyrics were seldom explicitly political the band had a clear left-wing socialist stance.[2] The name "Tysta Mari" was taken from Tysta Mari gången, a street under Sheraton Hotel in Stockholm.

The first recordings

edit

Tysta Mari made their first recording in Mars 2006, with Chistoffer "Kryckan" Bergfors in Garageland Studio. The recording was later in 2006 released on Red Angle Records as the band's debut EP Monument.[3] Further recordings in Garageland were made from September 2006 to February 2007, and released on Wasted Sounds in early 2008 as their first full length album Tjugo minuter över tre (translates: "Twenty minutes past three").[4] Although strongly disliked by some more right-wing or non-political elements of the Oi! community, their first recordings were generally very well received within the punk and alternative-rock communities in Sweden[5]. After the release of Tjugo minuter över tre in 2008 Tysta Mari played several shows during the year as the opening act for Flogging Molly, The Tossers and Millencolin in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark.

Sverige Casino

edit

In February 2009 Tysta Mari recorded their second album Sverige Casino in Soundlab Studio with the Millencolin guitarist Mathias Färm as producer. The result was a more polished sound with clear rock influences. The instrumentation was complemented with a brass section (trombone and tuba played by bass player Mikael Leetmaa) as well as more extensive use of piano and organs played by Henrik Wind. The gradual development towards a more mature rock sound was greatly recognized [6].
