History

edit

Amritt, Inc was founded in 2004 by Gunjan Bagla, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur who received his MBA from Southern Illinois University. Bagla currently lives in California and acts as the company's managing director.

Other current Amritt employees include Russ Turner, a former president of Honeywell Engines, Systems, and Services, and Dinesh Lal, who helped the Kohler Company expand its operations to India. Senior gaming industry advisor Rodney Shean was an instructor for the United States Air Force.

Services

edit

Amritt, Inc aids Western companies in doing business in the emerging markets of China and India, both of which are rapidly developing BRIC countries. Amritt contends that familiarity with and respect for Asian society, language, culture, and business practices will help Western companies be more effective in marketing their goods and services to Asian markets.[2] Amritt helps develop business plans for entering the Indian and Chinese markets, as well as finding distributors and joint venture partners for Western clients. Another practice is to find firms that are already in-market to help Western companies with legal procedures and public relations. The company hosts training workshops on topics such as offshoring and outsourcing, human resources issues in India, and dealing with Asian financial and legal environments.[3] In addition, Amritt conducts webinars for its clients on various international business-related topics.[4]

Amritt is particularly involved in the video game industry, publishing a yearly "Outsourcing Trendlines" study that analyzes outsourcing and offshoring in the industry.[5] In 2005, the company reported increasing outsourcing of video game development to India and China.[6] Follow-up reports in 2006 and 2007 concluded that global outsourcing of video game development was still growing significantly despite problems.[7] The report listed poor quality, high costs, and late delivery as some of the primary issues.[8] Also in 2005, Amritt helped to develop a dashboard for Midway Games' outsourcing team.[9] Amritt is currently a contractor for Gamasutra, a game development website.[10]

Notable clients of Amritt, Inc include Kraft Foods, Johnson & Johnson, the British company Reckitt Benckiser, and the French media conglomerate Vivendi.[11]

Conferences

edit

Speakers from Amritt often appear at business conferences and seminars in the United States. Besides appearances at Caltech, UCLA Extension, and USC, Amritt speakers have spoken at Asia Society meetings,[12] the US-India Business Forum, and South Asia Studies Association events. Gunjan Bagla has appeared on radio programs hosted by Warren Olney and the Business TalkRadio Network. He was also a speaker at the 2009 India business seminar in Salt Lake City,[13] the 2010 Asia/Pacific Business Outlook conference in Los Angeles,[14] and the 2010 Outsourcing World Summit in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.[15]
