Request For Protection Until Dispute Resolved

edit

Hi, i want to know if its possible to protect the Gothic Metal article. A while back i performed a revision of the page after a near 2 month dispute on the articles contents. After intense discussion and several revisions of the talk page on the since deleted temp article, one of the users has proceeded to start vandalising pages ive edited. This user is DanteInferno. This user was involved in the debate in opposition to the revision i wished to make, which was made due to consensus being reached on the revision and the argument being abandonded against it being posted. Since the users return he has demanded that i am vandalising pages, and has claimed me of using sock puppets to make edits to pages, and has claimed several users dislike me and refuse to work with me. Both of these claims are unsourced. Dante also seems to exhibit Meglomanical Point of View, reverting any edits made to pages listed on his user page, on the basis he 'owns' the articles. I do not know clearly how to deal with this user, and i have posted this message to several admins as i wish to ask advice from several admins i have had no previous contact with, as i do not wish to seem biased. I hope that the page can be protected against this vandalism, as it is disrupting Wikipedia to prove a point, which along with the users other actions against me, is in violationg of several Wikipedia policys. Sorry for having to seek help this way, but i am at a loss at the best way to handle this users personal vendetta against me. Leyasu 17:14, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh yeah, sorry about that, I never did get it working on 98 :( .Is it wise to change lowercase pokemon to uppercase Pokémon while I'm at it? Martin 23:27, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Someone removed me from the #wikipedia-esperanza access list today, so I took it to mean that I hadn't participated enough to Wikipedia:Esperanza to be welcome in the association anymore. Angela. 20:40, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

As I said on IRC, absolutely not! I was doing housekeeping, removing people who hadn't used the channel and/or thier access in more than 12 weeks (three months) and pulled yours. I have restored it personally, and am happy to see you've rejoined us. (Crossposting to User talk:Angela.) Essjay TalkContact 21:22, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Signpost/Esperanza

edit

I am a member of Esperanza, and also a new writer for the WikiSignpost. I am writing an article about the suggested changes to the current Charter. Please help me out.

Since you are the ADMIN. GEN. of the group, I have some questions for you.

1. What do you feel about some suggested changes to the voting system? AND 2. In your personal opinion, how is the structure of Esperenza?(good, bad, ok, etc.)

Thanks for all your help! Wikizach 01:42, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Just butting in here; I established the original voting system (for the first AC election) so I may be of help as well. Let me know if you need me for anything. Essjay TalkContact 16:54, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Block

edit

I could barely contain myself when I saw this. I have half a mind to block you for 17 seconds for blasphemy! Long live the Jimbo! *Sacrifices a floppy disk to appease the Founder* :-p Essjay TalkContact 00:46, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

This is just a reminder that the Birmingham meetup of UK Wikipedians that you have expressed an interst in is happening tomorrow. Sorry for the short notice. Thryduulf 15:23, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Interesting...

edit

Hi, it is interesting to see that you blocked Jimbo Wales - however, I don't see any message on his talkpage about your blocking him (nor could I find it in the history or deleted edits). I believe that it is the barest of courtesies to inform someone who is blocked. So what if the block is for 1 second?? If you believe that his action warrants a block, his talkpage definitely warrants a blocked note. --Gurubrahma 17:09, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, Celestianpower. Your sympathy is appreciated much, since this is not easy in the least to do. Last night on the vandalism channel, I'm afraid what I wrote was being misinterpreted for flirting, which was the last thing on my mind to do. My parents have kindly protected me from many things for sixteen years now, and I don't want to undo the work they have done overnight, so to speak. I want to be "innocent to that which is evil", and a lot of vandalism is evil. This explain?--ViolinGirl 14:13, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

I actually believe that all sins are equal: stealing a paperclip is as wrong as killing someone, for example. I get this from James 2:10: "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." By the way, I'm not saying I don't have any good friends here. I'm assuming you read this? Thanks again...--ViolinGirl 14:31, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
:D No, you're not attacking me. I understand how you feel, and I'm explaining myself because I want you to understand. I'm saying that I believe GOD believes that all sins are equally wrong. For example: You know in Matthew? If you covet, it's as bad as if you stole? That's sort of where I'm coming from. If I read profanity, it's as bad as speaking/thinking/whatever it myself. Get my jist?--ViolinGirl 14:41, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Actually, that's what I mean about my parents protecting me so well. If it were true (that I see/hear profanity, swearing, etc on TV, books, etc), then I would be hypocrtical to be leaving wikipedia for these reasons. However, my television watching is very rare: we don't have cable TV...the only TV I see at home is an occasional golf game with my dad on Sundays. My family and I watch some videos (Anne of Greengables), but there aren't many, and most of those are previewed by my parents. As for books: if I'm reading a book and come across anything that violates my conscience, I quit reading. It's hard sometimes (just like "leaving" wikipedia is), but I try to do it so I can live up to my motto of "no compromises". Thank you for asking me these questions. They have helped me to explain myself almost better than I felt I did here. And, obviously, I'm not gone for good....always your friend--ViolinGirl 14:50, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
>huge grin< I'm homeschooled, and doing college through distance education right now. :D I hope I haven't offended you in anything I've said...I'm just telling you how my heart/brain is wired. :)--ViolinGirl 15:03, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, actually, I'm teaching music students (from home) right now, so that meets my financial needs at present. I'm sure you won't be suprised when I say that I believe in courtship: where any prospective man who is interested in me goes to my dad, and works through him. So, that takes care of the boyfriend business, too. :) If you want my opinion on other things in matters like this :D then let me know. Here is a blog of twin teenagers who believe similar to me. My blog is here. Cheers!--ViolinGirl 15:27, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
This is letting you know that I got both your comment on my blog :) and your message, and I'm going to be replying soon. RL calls, you know! God bless you...--ViolinGirl 15:42, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Once I marry (IF :)), I will be under the protection of my husband. Secondly, I hope by the time I'm married I'll be mature and not easily shaken by "youthful lusts": 2 Timothy 2:22 says, "Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart." That's what I'm "fleeing" (by backing down from participation in Wikipedia) right now.
In regard to my blog...the point of the post you commented on was: don't be ashamed of Christ. The point was not, "Muslims are bad people". I gave this as an illustration that a lot of Christianity is looked down upon in RL. Finally, you asked: "...[H]ow do you choose to moderate your comments? Is it just moderation for profanity ...etc... or other things?" It's only in regard to profanity, etc., and the pages people link to. I'm not sure why it doesn't show your comment on the main page, but it is published, so... Cheers!--ViolinGirl 17:44, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Hey coach buddy!

edit

I'm still not totally sure why every kid in admin school needs two coaches, but I guess more can't possibly hurt, right? In any case, I'm glad that you're both here to do whatever it is you do. I'm definitely not ready for an RFA, but I'm hoping the coaching I get here will help me on my way. Communicating by posting everything onto each others' talkpages seems a little inefficient though, especially since there's two of you. IRC does sound like a better solution, and email could work here too.

I look forward to a vicious and painful trial by fire!

Snurks T C 00:37, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

The fact that we're 8 hours apart is making IRC and really any kind of realtime conversation pretty difficult. We should either schedule a good time for IRC or maybe just communicate with talkpages and email. Thoughts? Snurks T C 08:25, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm eight hours behind you, so Sunday might work, but I'll just be on occasionally and see if you're there. Snurks T C 18:23, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

AWB trouble

edit

Hey, be careful with the AutoWikiBrowser. Your December 27 edit of List of fictional cats[1] totally messed up a bunch of foreign words (including the link to the Japanese article), probably because AWB doesn't handle Unicode well. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 07:53, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Vanity page?

edit

Hi, Celestianpower. Trisdee here. I received a welcome message from you after I made my first contribution to Wikipedia back in August, 2005, which is why I'm asking you for advice now.

I wrote up my user page two days ago and now I'm wondering if that kind of page can be considered a vanity page. Sometimes I tell people too much about myself (and my user page certainly shows that), though often they don't mind, but I have no idea how appropriate it is here (on Wikipedia). I mean, I have been using (and perceiving) Wikipedia as an online encyclopedia but I'm not at all used to its "sense of community", as it were, so I am completely clueless as to how to "behave" around here.

So if you could check it out and let me know what should not be there, or even better, edit it for me (should it need to be edited), I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks ever so much.

Banes RfA

edit

Hope my reply there has cleared things up a bit, I'd be happy to receive any further comments. I could still be persuaded to change my vote to neutral (and no I don't mind you, Banes or anyone else trying- I won't hold that against him in any way). Feel free to give me a yell on my talk page --Petros471 20:52, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Do you think this is ready?

edit

Hey Celestianpower, I'm just wondering if and when you think the Esperanza Userpage award program will be ready to be moved to the main Esperanza programs page? I think everything has been covered from a preliminary stand point. I think the only way it could advance is to get it started. Any thoughts? Thanks. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 12:45, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I am contacting a few choice editors, meaning you :-), in hoping that you may help me in a suggestion I have. I am proposing that the Special:Listusers page be broken up into Users and indefinantly blocked/vandal accounts. I want to know your input on my suggestion. — Moe ε 16:14, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks or your input! I suggested it at the Village Pump/Proposals. — Moe ε 16:29, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
