Olivia Rodrigo

edit

Olivia Rodrigo is a famous actress and singer. She is 18 years old. Rodrigo currently stars on The Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and is well-known for her recent smash hit song "Drivers License" that went viral. Rodrigo got her acting career start in 2016 by starring on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark.[1]

Early life

edit

Olivia Rodrigo grew up as an only child, where she spent most of her time around adults, which shaped her into the old soul or "little old lady" which she calls herself today.[2] She started homeschooling when she was 12 years old, which allowed her to really "shape her voice, as both a songwriter and young woman during that alone time."[2] Rodrigo's first pet was a snake named stripes, which she had when she was four years old.[3]

Career

Acting career

edit

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series follows high school students preparing for their school's drama production of "High School Musical", which was very easy for Rodrigo to take that role as she "did a bunch of school plays when [she] was younger. I was in "Seussical" and "Annie", and I just loved it."[4] Rodrigo's 2019 song "All I Want" charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold.[5] Rodrigo wrote "All I Want" during finals week of her sophomore year in high school.[6] Rodrigo is returning for season two of the Disney+ original series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series which is set to premiere on May 14, 2021 alongside co-stars Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein and more.[7]

Music career

edit

"Drivers License" has earned the spot as "the fastest song to surpass 100 million streams in Spotify history."[8] The inspiration for her smash hit "Drivers License" came to Rodrigo after crying while driving around the suburbs shortly after getting her license.[9] Rodrigo wrote her song "Drivers License" on the piano and used lyrics that came straight from her diary. Describing the writing process, she says, "I wrote the first two verses and the chorus, then my producer and I wrote the bridge together, which is my favorite part of the song."[10] Rodrigo is really proud of the song, stating that, "It really captures the emotions of heartbreak - all the angst, sadness, and insecurity that goes along with a breakup."[10] Rodrigo made her "Drivers License" TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 4, 2021. Her massively successful debut single "Drivers License" also caught the attention and got the stamp of approval from Rodrigo's idol Taylor Swift, when Swift commented "I say that's my baby and I'm really proud" on Rodrigo's Instagram post of a picture of "Drivers License" on the music charts alongside Swift.[11] However, Swift previously praised Rodrigo for her musical talent by reposting her cover of her song "Cruel Summer" on Instagram.[11] She describes how it felt to release "Drivers License" as, "really exciting for me to put out a song like this for my debut single because it feels like it really captures who I am as an individual."[2]

Musical style and influences

edit

Among Taylor Swift and Lorde, Rodrigo also credits Halsey, Gracie Abrams, and Jack White as her musical inspirations. [3] In an interview with Vogue, Rodrigo says, "I love songs that feel like a diary entry and are confessional."[10] She strongly believes songwriting is the best way to tell a story that is really vulnerable and personal.[6] In a "Get To Know Me" YouTube video, Rodrigo says her favorite album is "folklore" by Taylor Swift, explaining how "that album completely changed the way I think about songwriting and music."[3] Rodrigo's dream collaborators include Joel Little, Jack Antonoff, Taylor Swift, Julia Michaels, and "the list goes on and on."[3] Rodrigo would most like to meet her idol Taylor Swift saying, "I would really really die to meet Taylor Swift, I think I would simply evaporate. I am obsessed with her and she totally raised me."[3] Rodrigo also admires that Swift "is constantly evolving while remaining true to who she is and her experiences."[2]

Personal life

edit

Olivia's favorite thing to do is write music, which is something she's been doing "ever since she can remember."[6] If Rodrigo was not a singer and actress, she thinks that she would still be doing something creative like working in the field of beauty or fashion.[3] Rodrigo's favorite place she's traveled to is Budapest.[3] Her favorite colors are purple and green.[3] The person that Rodrigo looks up to the most in life is her mom.[3] Rodrigo also credits her mom as the person who has given her the best piece of advice which is "those who matter don't mind and those who do mind don't matter."[3] Olivia's favorite books include "Big Magic" and "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert, referring to them as her "bibles."[3] Rodrigo's favorite fast food chain is Taco Bell.[3] Her favorite foods are chocolate cake and chewy candy.[3] Olivia's go-to karaoke song is "any of the club hits from like the 2010's on," such as "Tik Tok" by Kesha or "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction.[3] Her favorite television show to binge watch is currently Schitt's Creek.[3] When asked about what her dream superpower would be, Rodrigo says she would want to be able to "walk through a library, run my finger along all the spines of the books, and then retain all the information that is in the books. Either that or I would love to be able to record my dreams on like a VHS tape and then play them back later, I feel like that'd be sick."[3]
