E.G. Smile: E-girls Best (stylized as E.G. SMILE –E-girls BEST–) is the greatest hits album by Japanese collective unit E-girls, released on February 10, 2016 by Rhythm Zone and Avex Music Creative Inc. Six versions of the album was distributed: five physical editions, and for digital consumption. Additionally, pre-ordered versions included a special photo album and custom map designed for the groups E.G. Smile Map app, which was in promotion for the tour of the same name. The material included on the retrospect opens with their debut single "Celebration!", and ends with two new original recordings: "Dance With Me Now!" and "Shukko Sa! (Sail Out For Someone)", the former which was used as the promotional recording to the record.
Upon its release, E.G. Smile: E-girls Best received positive reviews from music critics, who commended the dance-sound and the quality improvement since the start of their career. Additionally, critics noticed the bands musical and growth within the Japanese scene, namely for their dance and singing skills. Commercially, it experienced success in Japan, but became their first album to miss the top of the Oricon Albums Chart, peaking at number two. Nevertheless, it achieved a Platinum award by the [[Recording Industry Association of Japan] (RIAJ) for shipments of 250,000 units.
Background and material
editThe material added onto E.G. Smile: E-girls Best consists of 15 pre-released singles, spanning from their debut "Celebration!" up until "Merry x Merry Xmas".[1] Additionally, there are two new recordings to the collection; "Dance With Me Now!", an electronic dance number that was created by husband-wife duo T.Kura and Michico, and a ballad titled "Shukko sa! (Sail Out For Someone)". Certain tracks were re-recorded by the remaining vocalists: Shizuka, Aya, Ami, Karen Fujii, Ruri Kawamoto and Reina Washio throughout 2015, due to the departure of the bands singers Mayu Sugieda, Chiharu Muto and Kyoka Ichiki; these tracks were "Celebration!", "One Two Three" and "E.G. Anthem: We Are Venus".[1] However, many other songs omitted certain singers as they were not part of the singles original line-up. Furthermore, because original E-girls Yuzuna Takebe was removed from the band between 2015–early 2016, she did not participate in any re-recording sessions.[1]
