Raymond Hugh Garvey (January 1, 1893 – June 29, 1959) was an American businessman, farmer, and lawyer. He was born in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Seth Homer and Jannetta Jane Post Garvey. He began farming as a teenager on rented land. Garvey attended Washburn University, where he earned his associate's degree in 1914 and a law degree in 1915. On July 8, 1916, he married Olive Hill White. They moved to Colby, Kansas, where Garvey practiced law, raised his family of four children, and operated a farm from 1916 to 1928. In 1948, he founded Garvey Drilling & Petroleum, Inc., which expanded to several western states. Garvey died in a traffic collision on June 29, 1959. He was posthumously inducted into the Kansas Business Hall of Fame in 1993.[1][2]
