User:CombatMarshmallow was the first account registered to George Barberio, a musician in Hogan's Heroes (band) from New Jersey. Barberio was blocked indefinitely for promoting his band, increasing their importance far beyond the way they are described by third party sources.
Barberio started in July 2007 with this IP edit adding Hogan's Heroes to the New Jersey hardcore article. In July 2008, the same IP added George Barberio to the article about Toms River High School North. Then the IP asked Gwen Gale about how to create a Hogan's Heroes band page, signing the note "George Barberio". Three hours later, the CombatMarshmallow account was registered. CombatMarshmallow went to the same high school page and wrote that he himself, George Barberio, was a notable alumni, and that he would "contact the proper channels" at Wikipedia to make certain his biography entry would stand. He has expressed frustration that his band has not been given the proper credit for influencing others, for instance writing, "...if some Groups are getting credit when we influenced them with our metal sound then We Desrve Credit."
CombatMarshmallow and the many IPs continued to alter the historic record at music articles to raise up the status of Hogan's Heroes, for instance calling them a genre "pioneer".[1][2]
Most of the involved IPs have been from New Jersey, including the Newark area and smaller places such as Toms River. For a few months in mid-2012, some Connecticut IPs were used, and then a Brooklyn IP was used. For nearly a year in 2014, an IP from Indianapolis was used.
