About
editAdam Harold Burner (ahburner) was born in Utah in 1983, the third of four children of Sandra and Harold Burner. At age three he moved with his family to Northern California graduating from Pleasant Valley High School in 2002 receiving an engineering scholarship and recognition from the Chico Rotary Club and Bank of America for his excellence in Automotive Technology. Shortly before his nineteenth birthday he applied to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Mission
editOn November 22nd 2003 Adam left to serve in the Peru Lima East Mission. Initially the Church planned to send him directly to the Lima Missionary Training Center along with another Peru bound American after spending two weeks in doctrinal training at the Provo missionary training center. Plans changed when his future missionary companion died in a tragic car accident on the way to the Provo MTC [1]. On January 28th, 2004 Adam left Provo Utah for Lima, Peru to an area known as La Molina. After six months there he traveled to Mantaro, Peru where he was forced to leave due the growing threat of the Shining Path. After five months in Huanuco and four months in Cerro de Pasco, Peru he returned to Lima and was trained as a Zone Leader for six weeks while living with a kind family in the district of Sta. Rosa. Thereafter he finished the remainder of his 24 month mission in Huancayo, Peru, a neighboring city to Mantaro where he previously began his ministry. Adam often speaks highly of his missionary experience: "I would do it again and again if given the opportunity. Serving the people of Peru during such a time of transition is my most cherished experience".
