Casual/Social: Socially a wing woman may just be a friend who stays at the other friends side to buffer undesired sexual advances from others. A professional wing woman is subtly different from a match maker, in that a match maker usually brings two people together for decidedly more serious or permanent reasons (like long term dating or marriage). Also with match makers, one person (or that person's relations), is often already acquainted with another person who is the object of their desire and requires the match maker to "bring the person around" - convincing that person to like the other.
With "fetching", the wing woman goes into a social situation cold and attempts to attract strangers to their client. The end aim of the client using wing woman services is usually just for the purposes of securing romantic encounters and improving social credibility - markedly more casual than that of those using match making services.
