Controversies
editOn 25 February 2021, Suppasit released a music video for his cover of Ed Sheeran's Afterglow. The music video was alleged by Thai netizens for its similarity to another music video done by NCT's Jaehyun on his cover of I Like Me Better by Lauv.[1] This sparked outrages on Twitter where a hashtag concerning the topic was on the trending of Thailand's platform.[2] Followers of Jaehyun had called out for a proper apology to the Korean artist and producers. Some even called for a revocation of his role as a TV show presenter as his response was deemed not enough.[3] On 27 February 2021, his team under the name Mew Suppasit Studio deleted the music video in question and also released three statements via their official Twitter account apologizing for the discomfort that the issue has caused for all of the parties involved, that the music video only intended to showcase the scenery of Bangkok streets, and emphasizing that no copyright infringement was intended. Suppasit then made a formal public apology via a press conference on March 4, 2021. His lawyer also stated that the music video did not violate any copyright laws.[4][5][6]
In November 2021, Suppasit and his studio filed a prosecution case against 10 people online for defamation and violation of Computer Act.[7][8]
