For more details about AMbot, please see User:AMbot, where you can see approved tasks, etc.

Please place requests for AMbot at the bottom of the page and please sign your post.

To request tagging of multiple categories, please provide a link to the discussion which lists all the categories. If you list them all in the XFD, there is no need to do it here also. You are still responsible for making the group nom. AMbot only puts the tag on each page pointing to the discussion. The bot will perform the work regardless of the operator's opinion regarding the XFD. Note also that categories closed as keep may be detagged by the bot.

Wikipedians by location

edit

Well, I've put it off for long enough, I suppose. Nominating them all for renaming: "...in..." to "...from...".

(That said, I would like to wait until the "new month" (January) for the nomination. Just thought it would be better to give you a "head's up" ahead of time : )

The sub-page listing seemed to work rather well last time (alma-mater list). Would you be willing to do the same with this?

I'll watch this page for when the tagging and listing is done, and I'll post the nomination then.

Thanks in advance : ) - jc37 21:49, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK, I'm going to put the current list at /Wikipedians by location. I will assume that the nomination header will be "Category:Wikipedians by location subcats". When you create the nomination, feel free to move the subpage to your desired location and speedy the resulting redirect. Before I start tagging, please take a look at the list. In particular, please note that not all of the categories are in the "...in..." format (ex. Category:Mozambican Wikipedians), do you want to remove these from the nom? or perhaps you want to do those first? Many of them are ethnic cats also (ex. Category:Indo-Aryan Wikipedians). I'll hold off until you have some time to thing about these anomalies and decide how you want to proceed. --After Midnight 0001 05:03, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to hold off on the "X Wikipedians" in this nom, for now. I want to limit this to just "Wikipedians in X" to "Wikipedians from X" (though let's include the single "who live in X" cat). Also leave out the prefectures. There may be a grammar issue there, which means separate nomination later. The rest will also likely be part of future nominations. (There's some fascinating categorisation here, I must admit : )
Also, for the sake of completeness, if you wouldn't mind, please go through the ethnicity/nationality cats (and anywhere else, if possible) and see if there are any stray "in" cats there as well. (I'm just guessing/hoping such a search is possible : ) - jc37 10:19, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hey, it is:
prefix search
Maybe this will help? - jc37 10:22, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Alright, first of all, I just noticed that I had not removed the duplicates (items which appeared multiple times in the tree). This cuts the list from 926 down to 724. Then I took the list and sorted it alphabetically to make it easier to select from. Maybe you want to just delete the entries that you don't want to be tagged/included? I can take a first crack at it if you want. I also added a new section at the bottom for the "Wikipedians in" cats not in the tree. Some of these you will want to remove, but the others you will probably want to add to the nomination and also categorize them to add them to the tree. By the way, you got me thinking and I also found 7 "Wikipedians from" cats not in the tree that you will want to do something with, I imagine. --After Midnight 0001 15:32, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
This "working" page is a great idea : ) - Even after the initial nom, I can see quite a few follow up noms (mostly speedy to match convention), as well as several that appear to need to be categorised/recategorised. I'll move those to be tagged for the first nom to their own section. - jc37 19:25, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I hope that makes it clear(er). Just the two "Wikipedians in" sections (subcats, and non-subcats), for now. - jc37 19:43, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Gotcha, so to confirm: after the first of the year, you would like for the "Wikipedians in" cats and "Wikipedians in" cats not in the tree sections to be tagged. For clarity, you do not want any others tagged right now (i.e. "Wikipedians in" x prefecture will not be tagged), correct? --After Midnight 0001 12:26, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, and those will be the ones which will need to be moved to a UCFD sub page. (Unless you think the list is now short enough for the page itself?) - jc37 16:22, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
That list is definitely (IMHO) too large to be on the main page; it should be put on a subpage like the other nomination was. I will try to watch to see when you are online during the next day or so, to try to have the bot tag when you are available to create the nomination. --After Midnight 0001 00:35, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, in finishing up writing the nom, I realised that it had to be a bit broader than I originally intended.
The list of the categories that need to be tagged is at Wikipedia:User categories for discussion/Wikipedians by location.
Thanks again, for all your help in generating the lists, and tagging. - jc37 08:53, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I won't be able to do this for about 12 hours. --After Midnight 0001 11:51, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

This discussion was closed as no consensus. Could your bot now go through and remove all of the deletion tags? - auburnpilot talk 19:20, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
