The Wikipedia page on Nuclear Proliferation has several issues that need to be worked on. The page is lacking citations and contains some out of date material that could use some tuning. It definitely needs some grammatical editing as well. The Talk page of the article contains several suggestions that we could work off of that include addressing biased sections and requests to include more information on certain areas. Based on what we’ve discussed in class on the threat of nuclear war due to the nation’s past actions, this seems like a relevant article to tackle.

The Wikipedia article on Environmental Impact of Meat Production could benefit from several additions. This would include an expansion of the article section concerning the impact of antibiotics use within meat production on the environment. It would also include adding citations to certain Uncited claims such as methane emission being offset by methane decay in the atmosphere. It could also do with the addition of a section specifically regarding the effects of industrial fishing and the direct negative impacts on ocean biodiversity that it has. There is also little mention of how meat industry run off creates coastal dead zones and destroys coral reefs. This issue should be added to the section of the article regarding effects on wildlife. Based on the discussion of environmental issues in class such as loss of biodiversity and climate change this article seems to meet the criteria for the project.

This article concerning the commodification of nature would benefit from
including references from sources we have discussed throughout this course, such as
John Bellamy Foster’s Ecology Against Climate Change and Bill McKibben’s A World at
War. For example, Foster’s definition of commodification of nature and his argument
criticizing the capitalist action (calling the cure far worse than the disease) might greatly expand the article. McKibben’s view on commodifying nature as a type of military resource and attacking climate change with military strategies from a capitalist standpoint would also expand the article.

While there is a separate article for criticisms of capitalism, the article could use a synthesis of the two to introduce the idea that capitalism isn’t necessarily the only form of economic function as the article immediately dives into alternatives. The article could use expansion of the criticisms of anti-capitalist movements. The article does not include the ideas of anti-capitalist movements stagnating and we could add upon this by using Richard JF Day’s work Gramsci is Dead: Anarchist Currents in the Newest Social Movements to highlight how many counter-capitalist forms of activism are not as effective in the present day.

While the article explains historical descriptions of late stage capitalism and its roots and uses through the mid to late 20th century, it is severely lacking in modern descriptions of late capitalism. The latest the article discusses is 1970 leaving out 40 years of modern progress to late capitalism. Given the vast amount of a time period we have to cover, there are many things we could add to the article. We could use Heller and Duchene’s essay “Language in Late Capitalism” and discuss how Capitalism has become an integral aspect of modern society and has become a pervasive part of the collective contemporary mindset. This would relate to the common sense notion we discussed in the early weeks of the class.
