hey alex - wow! great job explaining a difficult scientific term! i thought that your article was very well organized and made sense to me as i was reading. i just changed a couple very minor format issues regarding where the footnote was placed in relation to the period and quotation marks in relation to the period. your paper looks very well researched and thought out! now you might want to see if there is any way to link your article to other articles relating to natural organic matter - i will see if i can find any as well. great job so far! 1013-shannon 20:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

I think I should have studied more science in college. I have a geeky affection for this article, and I think you did very good work here, although as usual the subject is over my head. Nicely formatted, cleanly structured, authoritatively sourced. I like that you include recent studies and current thinking about the subject. The article really gives me a sense of science as an active process of discovery, and I think this article makes a significant contribution to the body of knowledge at Wikipedia. I do have a small concern about prose style, in that some of the paragraphs seem very choppy. For example, "The problem is with water purification. NOM can still bind to metal ions and minerals. This same ability that helped with water retention in dirt, hurts water purification methods." This has to do with telling a story to your reader, thinking about the information that your reader will need when and where. Here the first sentence is not really explained until the third. It's what I call a "blurt." It will be fixed easily by some work at the sentence level with an eye toward improving paragraph flow. Never forget that you have a reader on the other end of that computer screen, and you're not only trying to present the facts, you're also trying to organize them into a story for the reader. Other than that, I think you can move on to final cleaning tasks like adding wikilinks, categorizing your article, and revising other articles to point to it. Alex good work, you chose an article that I would never be able to write about and turned it into a huge article. Your bibliography is big and that is good, all your links seem to be working. I bet you spent a long time researching this scientific topic. Overall it is well organized and easy to follow, lots of good information from good sources. My only concern at the moment is that you mention "many groups" in your section about false positives. Who are the many groups? Are they scientists?? Or other chemistry groups?? Okay, good luck with the new project. Be sure that you do an extensive search at Wikipedia so that you are not duplicating efforts elsewhere that may be under a different title. You can also try using Google to search Wikipedia (format for the google search: "type your keywords here site:wikipedia.org" without the quotation marks). Your sources look good. You'll notice that the wikilinks in your project draft aren't working. See notes from the April 16 class for proper formatting.
