Tonya M. Palermo is an American pediatric psychologist. She is a professor of anesthesiology and pain medicine at the University of Washington. She holds the Hughes M. and Katherine Blake Endowed Professorship in Health Psychology, at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Life

Palermo earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Case Western Reserve University.[1] She completed a residency at the Ohio State University.[2] She was a postdoctoral fellow in pediatric pain management at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital.[2]

Palermo is a professor and vice chair of research in the department of anesthesiology and pain medicine, and holds the Hughes M. and Katherine Blake Endowed Professorship in Health Psychology, at the University of Washington School of Medicine.[2] She is the editor-in-chief of The Journal of Pain.[2] Her research focuses on pain in children; how pain, sleep, and psychological/behavioral factors are interrelated; and innovative psychological and family treatments for managing and preventing chronic pain.[2] She has also studied and developed innovative technological approaches for assessing and treating pain, including internet and mobile applications based on cognitive behavioral therapy.[2]
