Too big, unbounded edit

Can someone define bounds for this template please? Really big navigation templates are generally frowned upon. So are "open-ended" navigational templates that can grow indefinitely.

Ideally, navigational templates should be created complete right from the start, even if that means it contains red-links; see for example {{WesternAustraliaPremiers}}.

In this case, is it even possible to create it complete? If you did, how big would it be?

Personally, I would split this template up, and consider each aspect on its merits. I would create {{Perth highways}} template for highways and freeways; this would be a good sized navigational template. I would create templates for the other aspects only if the templates can be created complete without being too large. Otherwise, I would simply use the {{otherarticles}} template.

Agreed - if people want to find articles on major Perth roads, they simply need to click on the category "Major roads in Perth, Western Australia" at the bottom of every such article, which is unlikely to spill onto a second page (needs 200 articles to do that) and is quite easily readable. All highways and all freeways sounds comprehensive enough - if Main Roads thought otherwise they wouldn't have limited the single-digit routes to that range. Wanneroo Road is really the only odd one out in the above, as it's neither a highway nor a single digit route number. In design terms I'd also point to Template:Suburbs of Bunbury, Template:Harvey Waroona towns and Template:Towns Wheatbelt South WA as examples of how a lot of content can be cleanly located in a very small space Orderinchaos 11:23, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not wanting to offend the designer and recent user - I find it too large and too far reaching - on some stubs it takes more room than the text - I would suggest significant pruning - and links to the other varieties of bitumen and gravel rather than the box as it is at present SatuSuro 04:08, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

There has been plenty of time for the author of this template to comment, and he has not. I have now rescoped this template to freeways and highways. It should now be removed from articles that don't appear in the template. Hesperian 04:15, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Done. Also made some stylistic changes to the template. Orderinchaos 06:49, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
