Alternating rows table section edit

Anyone want to take a shot at alternative the colors in this table with {{Alternating rows table section}} and the colors #EEF and #DDF? Gary King (talk) 19:53, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Template:Infobox Musician Awards edit

Hey there Gary, I noticed you were the creator of Template:Infobox Musician Awards and was wondering, would you consider adding a few more awards to the table? (Reply here on your talk page. Thanks.) DiverseMentality 08:09, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure, let me know what you want. Gary King (talk) 19:19, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Let's see, we have the ASCAP Awards (seven different award shows, not sure if it should all be combined as one though), MTV Africa Music Awards, NAACP Image Awards and Vibe Awards. If I think of more afterward, I'll drop by your talk page. DiverseMentality 22:46, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

ASCAP and Vibe awards don't have dedicated pages for the award ceremonies themselves; I'm trying to only include "major" awards shows, and that usually means those that have their own articles. So, I'll add MTV Africa and NAACP. I'm guessing these won't be used, though, immediately? Are you just looking for awards shows to add just in case? Gary King (talk) 22:49, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ahh, I see. As for MTV Africa and NAACP, they will. I'm currently working on a to-be featured list candidate that has both award shows, and another one already is a featured list that uses the custom award field for NAACP. Oh! Here's another: MTV Movie Awards. DiverseMentality 22:57, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hm, I'm trying to add only music-related awards. Award ceremonies that are general art, I usually add, too. But this one is completely film. Not sure if I should add it? Anyways, probably better to continue this conversation on the template's talk page; makes more sense there. Gary King (talk) 22:59, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

D'oh, I should've realized that. Alright, I suppose MTV Africa and NAACP will do for now. DiverseMentality 23:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • The GLAAD Media Awards and MOJO Awards also feature music categories. You may want to consider adding those to the template as well. I know they would apply to a variety of musicians. Also, the Genie Awards (Canadian equivalent to the Academy Awards), features a few music categories (Best Original Song, Music Score, etc.), so this would be appropriate to add as well. Thanks! -Another Believer (talk) 03:51, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Follow up: Oh! And Australia's Helpmann Awards also has music categories. Just thought I'd let you know in case you wanted to add them to the list so they can be used and not listed as one of the musicians 9 "other" award categories. Thanks again! -Another Believer (talk) 03:53, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I added MOJO Awards. I'm not so sure about the rest. Let's try to keep the box to awards ceremonies that primarily focus on music, as there are already so many of those. And, perhaps restrict the list to awards ceremonies that focus more on a global scale rather than regionally. Gary King (talk) 04:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Not a problem -- thanks so much! -Another Believer (talk) 02:13, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Color for 'Nominations' cell edit

Not sure when the change was made, but I noticed the Nominations cells have changed from red to yellow. Shouldn't the top cell in the template that displays "Nominations" also have a yellow background? --Another Believer (Talk) 05:27, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay done. Color change was originally made here. Gary King (talk) 15:27, 7 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Template should be remade edit

There's no reason the award parameters for this template should be award specific. Someone should remake this template with a parameter scheme as follows:

| award1name =
| award1article =
| award1wins =
| award1noms =
| award2name =
| award2article =
| award2wins =
| award2noms =
...

Kaldari (talk) 18:46, 23 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I somewhat agree with this since the custom fields cannot be sorted INTO the award list. However, adding a new award will be problematic since you would then have to re-number the entire list since they won't automatically be alphabetical order. I think that there should be an optional "customs" option. Perhaps a field called {{{1}}} instead a set number of parameters called custom1, etc. To this field, you can add numerous {{Infobox musician awards/custom}} templates, each that will be sent properties such as award (to which you can format how you like--with a link, perhaps), wins, and noms. Implementing this into the template would be easy since you could just add an "IF {{{1}}} exist, output its contents." All of the inner templates would take care of itself.
This will allow the user to list ALL awards in whatever order they want. ~ [ Scott M. Howard ] ~ [ Talk ]:[ Contribs ] ~ 21:40, 16 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
With this edit, it shows that using the (currently sandboxed) template with the newly created Template:Infobox musician awards/customs templates, you can add whatever you want to the list, and all other fields will still work. I'm not perfect at creating IFs and stuff, but I think I got it to be as good as I can get it. ~ [ Scott M. Howard ] ~ [ Talk ]:[ Contribs ] ~ 22:16, 16 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Custom awards list extended to 20? edit

I'm using only the Custom awards section and find that 14 award types is not enough. Can this be extended to 20?shaidar cuebiyar ( talk | contribs ) 23:02, 27 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{Infobox musician awards}} edit

I have come here with a discussion and to achieve a consensus on something. This template lists all teh awards received by a musician during his/her tenure. However, the template is exceedingly long, and most of the times contricts the award tables of the articles where it is present. So I would like to add a collapsed feature on the template like "collapsed = yes" or something like that so that an editor can click on "show" and see the awards. As a result the infobox won't constrict the tables of the page where it is present. By default the infobox will have "collapsed = no", hence any user who chooses not to make it collapsible, can ignore the function. This won't have any impact on the existing articles. — Legolas (talk2me) 03:36, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I strongly support this. Look at List of awards and nominations received by Green Day for an example of the problem. It's a mess, and the fact that it is optional means that there are no downsides. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:53, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
That is nothing compared to the mess that the Gaga award list has become. If this proposal passes, our awards list will look like the cleaned-up movie awards infobox list, like List of accolades received by Precious. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:03, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Please create an example in a sandbox so we can see the final product. Gary King (talk · scripts) 02:24, 26 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
As I said above, it iwll be like List of accolades received by Precious. Just the awards will be collapsed. Thats it. — Legolas (talk2me) 07:46, 26 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but code was still needed to actually incorporate it into the template, which was why I asked for a sandboxed version. Gary King (talk · scripts) 17:50, 26 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Okay done. All boxes have the "hide" text, if anyone wants to use it and also so that all the boxes look the same. However, if you set "collapse = yes" for the infobox in a particular article, then it will be collapsed by default. Gary King (talk · scripts) 20:25, 26 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot Gary. This addition will surely improve many articles, where the lengthy infobox becomes a problem. — Legolas (talk2me) 10:01, 27 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nominations edit

I've noticed in the last few months that there are a lot of "List of awards and nominations" articles (including Featured lists) that include the wins in the number of nominations in the infobox. Do we need to change or add to the wording of the template to clarify it? —Musdan77 (talk) 18:19, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Noms include Wins edit

Meryl Streep has officially the record for most Oscar nominations ever: 20 that includes her 3 wins. By only writing "17" in his noms field, it would create confusion. Wins are part of the nominations. Cornerstonepicker (talk) 20:29, 20 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Infobox or custom Module? edit

@Frietjes: (and anyone else), was looking as converting this to {{infobox}} but realized that it might make more sense to just make a custom module... Thoughts? To be clear, not asking you to code it! Just curious what your thoughts are. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:12, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Zackmann08, should be fairly straighforward to convert the inner collapsible section to use {{infobox3cols}}. Frietjes (talk) 15:08, 21 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Zackmann08, I put something in the sandbox. Frietjes (talk) 16:29, 21 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
