Colors edit

"Affiliation" generates a colored bar behind the character's name. These are the colors I chose when fixing Affiliation to appear in the template (slightly revised from what was originally used) with reasoning:

  • G.I. Joe: blue (as in red, white, and blue) (was green, see Oktober Guard)
  • Cobra: red (as in their sigil)
  • Dreadnok: purple (no specific reason. was pink, which seems wrong)
  • Iron Grenadier: gold (like Destro's mask when he started that faction)
  • Oktober Guard: green (military fatigues. Red would have been preferred, but is used for Cobra)
  • Cobra-La: orange (no specific reason)

I couldn't think of additional factions. I considered adding one for "G.I. Joe (formerly Cobra)", and vice-versa, but that only affects a very few characters. I'm not beholden to any of these colors other than Red for Cobra. Suggestions? Salamurai (talk) 13:25, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

As far as I am concerned these colors are fine. (Steve (talk) 19:51, 12 March 2008 (UTC))Reply
What color would you have used if a page contained a bio of anyone who was a member of Coil or the Lunartix Empire. Rtkat3 (talk) 5:16, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Lunartix, maybe whatever color was prominent in their cardbacks. I think there's only six characters and was going to say "why bother" but then remembered there's only 4 significant Cobra-La characters, and only 3 of those have figures, but there's a color assignment. Everyone who has been part of "The Coil" (any of its versions) is a Cobra, no reason to do a new color, but maybe it should be indicated in the profile for the prominent members? - Salamurai (talk) 23:39, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Recommendation edit

May God Bless You Always!

I have discovered a really neat website that tell us the rank for the characters like Duke is E-8 (Army first sergeant). I think that this would be a nice addition to the template. What do you people think? (Steve (talk) 19:50, 12 March 2008 (UTC))Reply

I added a field for rank, along with some other fields, after looking over filecards for various characters. While I couldn't think of any other fields, maybe someone else will. Salamurai (talk) 00:01, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Movie edit

I was wondering, could something be added to the infobox to list the actor or actress that will be playing the character in the Live Action G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. This really would be separate from the voiced by category already present. Sgetz (talk) 13:08, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's not necessary in my opinion.--Flash176 (talk) 11:51, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Apparently it's become a contention -- In the Snake-Eyes article, an infobox says "voiced by Ray Park" except Joe fans all know Snake Eyes has no voice. I won't make a change without consensus, tho. Perhaps an additional field for "actor"? Or a new template altogether. Or maybe the Character template shouldn't be used for movie characters. Salamurai (talk) 03:26, 29 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
We could add an Actor to this field, or should a separate infobox be used all together for this? Sgetz (talk) 19:36, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
I would prefer to add a second infobox, that way we can make a movie section for the characters to explain differences in the movie from the comics/cartoon. However, if we added a movie infobox, what would it contain besides actor?--Flash176 (talk) 21:22, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have not seen the file cards, but technically if the movie starts a new series of movies, we could put the year the character debuted for the movie, and can use a voiced by section if different than the actor. Temporarily, I did add an actor to the main template to see how it would look. I used it on Snake-Eyes and Scarlett as a test. Sgetz (talk) 23:59, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I forgot, they changed Breaker's file name for the movie, so a separate infobox probably will be necessary. Gosh I hate Stephen Sommers right now...--Flash176 (talk) 00:05, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also, there serial numbers have changed for some of the characters. The items that are listed on the file cards for the characters are:
File Name (without middle initials)
Serial Number
Grade (equivalent of rank)
Preferred Weapon

Name formatting edit

Since I was visiting to talk about the colors (see above) I was looking at how the infobox shows the character name. I found it odd that the name is left-justified instead of centered, and I don't know why that is, nor can I get it to move, for whatever reason (I haven't mucked with the code here in a couple years). I know the original template was based off the Transformers character infobox. Sometime in the last three years, the TF template has become more like every other character/actor infobox, putting the character name at the top and the faction in the color bar -- ours says "G.I.Joe Character" at the top, then the name below the image (if any). I'm thinking it needs to change to be consistent with the rest of the world. Any opinions? I think it can be changed without having to modify any of the articles. - Salamurai (talk) 00:13, 13 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

It took some tinkering, considering I know very little about the code for creating infobox templates. But I was able to add code to the name section for it to be centered, and the change seems to have automatically taken affect on all the G.I. Joe character articles.
