Non-NHL-playing coaches edit

I have discovered that this template is incompatible with NHL coaches that have never played in the NHL.

eg George Burnett (ice hockey) or Bill LaForge etc.

Our source statistics sites have separate URL directories such as "/staff/" or "/coaches/." Would anyone feel it worthwhile to tweak this template, or rather create separate template for coaches?Flibirigit (talk) 02:56, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

At this point I would stick handling coaches the way we already do before we add them to this template as that might make this one a bit too complex. I could probably make a separate coaching one, but I don't know that we have all that many external links for coaching statistics as it is. And when we do I think they are just links instead of templates since none of our external link templates handle coaches except those that list player and coach stats on the same page. I will take a look at seeing if its worth gathering some coaching external links to make a coaching one. -DJSasso (talk) 12:40, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Forgive me for being away for so long... what's the current plan for coaches? Flibirigit (talk) 16:07, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Well I don't know that there is one, but I think they are just typically links like we used to do back in the day such as "* [http://thecoachesstats.com/coachid=1|Coach Name]'s statistics @ [http://thecoachesstats.com]". Coaches are kind of the red headed step child. Not many people deal with them much I think and the vast majority of coaches have played and for those that haven't usually thehockeydb.com has their stats so you can either use the hockeydb template or the icehockeystats template to get the hockeydb link. -DJSasso (talk) 16:16, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
That's true. If you haven't noticed, my focus is writing coaches' biographies lately. Flibirigit (talk) 19:50, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Link to Legends of Hockey is broken edit

@Zyxw: I am tagging you, because you have the rights to edit this template. The link to Legends of Hockey is broken for ice hockey personnel. For example, Braydon Coburn. It appears that non-HOF ice hockey personnel does not have pages anymore. – Sabbatino (talk) 17:46, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Sabbatino: Since those links no longer work, I temporarily removed it from the template. If a new URL is found, let me know and that can be added. Thanks. -- Zyxw (talk) 04:19, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have fixed the previous fix as it broke the template. Just let me know if a new URL format is found and I can reverse what I did and update. But I have a feeling its gone for good. The legends site was never well upkept that well and often had mistakes in it. -DJSasso (talk) 18:38, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Include PHF Player stats? edit

I went through today and updated what is now Template:PHF profile and fixed all instances of it that I could find via "What links here." That said, is there a reason to keep that as a separate template from this one? I believe that we could create a new Wikidata property for "PHF Player ID" that could be used by this template and then tack a link on the end. (I don't know how to create that likely-new Wikidata property, but there's gotta be a way...) Thoughts? --MikeVitale 23:35, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

PWHL Player stats? edit

What would it take to add PWHL player stats to this template? Example: https://minnesota.thepwhl.com/en/stats/player/21/ for Taylor Heise. --MikeVitale 05:49, 12 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
