Diatonic scale edit

I changed the heading of the template to "a diatonic scale" because not all scales have these functions. Hyacinth 02:07, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Diatonic and chromatic edit

The heading in this template is Degrees of a diatonic scale, but the term "diatonic" is used here without a clear meaning. I would make a point similar to Hyacinth's, above: on one interpretation of the term diatonic, scales other than diatonic ones have some of these functions (the harmonic minor, for example). Along with chromatic, the term causes serious uncertainties at several Wikipedia articles, and in the broader literature. Some of us thought that both terms needed special coverage, so we started up a new article: Diatonic and chromatic. Why not have a look, and join the discussion? Be ready to have comfortable assumptions challenged! – Noetica♬♩Talk 05:36, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template's name edit

Suggest this template renamed "Diatonic degrees" as "Degrees" alone is too vague, especially outside musical context. 212.84.100.97 (talk) 14:16, 29 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Columns edit

Version with columns. More clear but less pretty. Hyacinth (talk) 03:43, 28 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Maybe a little more pretty. Hyacinth (talk) 10:31, 28 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Picture edit

I would like to suggest that the numbers in the template be changed. Some of them are against a white bg, making them look "off." Please change this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clammybells (talkcontribs) 05:27, 27 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Roman numerals edit

Hyacinth (talk) 22:05, 3 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes, so why are scale degrees given the nomenclature of triads? This is totally misleading. The hatted arabic numerls are typical, and certainly should not be accompanied by the "degree" sign that signifies diminished triad, etc. Otherwise, change the title and purpose of this infobox.
