please note that many coat of arms in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_state_of_the_European_Union, including that of Malta, are mistaken.
for Malta it should be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Coat_of_arms_of_Malta.svg and not http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Arms_of_Malta.svg which i wonder if this really exists.(ref http://www.doi.gov.mt/EN/state/symbols.asp)

May you please edit the flag variant section to include the flag icon "File:Flag of Malta (1943).svg". It was the unofficial national flag of Malta during the colonial period and was used much more frequently than even the official "1943" blue ensign flag. I recommend "unofficial-1943" but any label you believe is appropriate for it is fine. Thanks Legion566 (talk) 01:24, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

Could [File:Unofficial Flag of Malta (pre-1943).svg], considered the ethnic colours of Malta (red and with w/o the George Cross) be added to this template? I suggest the name form {{flag|Malta|Old}} or something similar as a name.
