editI don't believe that Edith was ever referred to as "Edith Baines-Bunker" on All in the Family. Similarly, I don't think Gloria hyphenated her maiden name to her married name. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 08:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- The main point here is to bring more precision to the character's identify. She is referred to her composite name on a few occasions, like at the end of the Archie's Brief Encounter (Part 2) episode. The same applies to Gloria's character. --Jazzeur (talk) 14:20, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think that adding Edith's maiden name, and hyphenating it, no less, is necessary to ensure precision. Compare Template:Friends, for example, where the characters are all identified by their commonly used first and last names, rather than calling Joey Tribbiani "Joseph Francis Tribbiani, Jr." as we could. The degree to which Edith is known as "Edith Bunker" instead of "Edith Baines-Bunker" is something like more than 100 to 1; compare these Google searches: [1], [2]. Finally, I note that the issue of the issue of what form of surname married women chose to use was a notable issue during the time All in the Family was on the air, but I'm not aware of any evidence that Edith herself was one of those who preferred to see her name in this hyphenated form, at least not most of the time. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 07:31, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Doesn't matter what she went by, link to the name the article uses. You should not pipe links in a nav box, not unless you're doing it to save space (like turning Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith into Star Wars Episode III, Episode III, or Revenge of the Sith). You should not pipe links just to create an extended name. Wikipedia is not written for fans, it's written for the general reader, who would wonder why a link for "Edith Baines-Bunker" is going to Edith Bunker. - I second Bignole here. The template should use the same name as the article, without extra additions and inclusions. Pipes should only be used to remove a disambiguation from the character name, nothing more. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 13:26, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

She is called Edith Baines Bunker by Archie in the Edith vs. the Bank episode. This reference simpifies relating to her real character and is not complicated by piping, especially in a list such as here. --Jazzeur (talk) 21:59, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- One or two passing references to a character's maiden name is not nearly sufficient. I have corrected the errors. Joefromrandb (talk) 05:16, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- This was changed before, citing the consensus here, and then reverted with the summary "no consensus". I don't see how consensus could be any clearer. Joefromrandb (talk) 06:07, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
