Template documentation[view] [edit] [history] [purge]

This template is the project banner for WikiProject Catholicism. The template is to be placed on talk pages (only) of the articles identified as being within the Project's scope (at or near the top of the talkpage).

This template automatically assigns the category Category:WikiProject Catholicism articles to the articles' talk pages. This category and other associated Project categories are used in various ways by the Project in the overall management of the Project's workload.

This template contains optional parameters, details of usage are given below.

Usage instructions

General syntax options for this template are as follows:

{{WikiProject Catholicism
|class=
|importance=
|attention=
|Canon= <!-- or |canon= -->
|needs-infobox=
|needs-photo=
}}

The parameters are named, and (if used) must be entered exactly as-is (note, all are lowercase).

The class and importance parameters are associated with the Project's article assessment and rating scheme. These parameters add a category to the talkpage, which category depends on the values chosen.

Parameter values

Class

  • class – valid values are listed in the custom class mask. See the project's quality scale for details. B-class checklist (available only when |class=stub |class=start |class=c or |class=b):
    • B-Class-1 – Referencing and citation (see the project's B-class criteria for details).
    • B-Class-2 – Coverage and accuracy (see the project's B-class criteria for details).
    • B-Class-3 – Structure (see the project's B-class criteria for details).
    • B-Class-4 – Grammar and style (see the project's B-class criteria for details).
    • B-Class-5 – Supporting materials (see the project's B-class criteria for details).
    • B-Class-6 – Accessibility (see the project's B-class criteria for details).
    • Set these to "yes" or "y" if the article meets the criterion; "no" or "n" if it does not. If the criterion has not been checked, omit the parameter or leave it with a blank value. When |class=b is set, all six criteria need to be satisfied, otherwise the article is treated as if |class=c were set.

Importance

An article's importance assessment is generated from the importance parameter in the {{WikiProject Catholicism}} project banner on its talk page:

{{WikiProject Catholicism|importance=???}}

The following values may be used for the importance parameter to describe the relative importance of the article within the project (see Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Priority of topic for assessment criteria):

Top (adds articles to Category:Top-importance Catholicism articles)  Top
High (adds articles to Category:High-importance Catholicism articles)  High
Mid (adds articles to Category:Mid-importance Catholicism articles)  Mid
Low (adds articles to Category:Low-importance Catholicism articles)  Low
NA (adds articles to Category:NA-importance Catholicism articles)  NA
??? (articles for which a valid importance rating has not yet been provided are listed in Category:Unknown-importance Catholicism articles)  ???

Optional

  • Canon – set |Canon=yes if the article is supported by the Canon Law task force.
  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • needs-photo – set |needs-photo=yes to mark the page as needing a photograph.
  • auto – This parameter is for the use of bots and indicates that the article has been automatically rated:
    • |auto=length – based on the length of the article
    • |auto=inherit – because one or more other projects use this class
    • |auto=yes (or |auto=stub), in conjunction with |class=stub – as Stub-Class because it uses a stub template
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for John Doe, use |listas=Doe, John so that the talk page will show up in the D's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people#Ordering names in a category.
    It is not required if another WikiProject template on the same page has its own |listas= set, since it not only affects categories used by the banner in which it is set, but it also affects the sortkey of all other banners and templates.
  • small – this parameter is no longer supported and can safely be removed from the template.
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Aliases

  • The parameters |b1= to |b6= are recognised as aliases for |B-Class-1= to |B-Class-6=. If both |B-Class-1= and |b1= are present, |b1= is ignored; similarly for the other five pairs.
  • The parameter |canon= is recognised as an alias for |Canon=. If both |Canon= and |canon= are present, |canon= is ignored.
