Template:Interlanguage link/doc/sandbox2

This template links to pages on non-English Wikipedias for pages that do not exist on the English Wikipedia. It displays a red link to the page, as normally occurs for nonexistent pages, followed by one or more links to the non-English article(s). Once the English Wikipedia article is created, the template will show a normal blue link without the non-English links.[a]

Parameters edit

The general format of this template is {{ill|Page name|language code 1|page name 1|language code 2|page name 2|...}}

The first parameter, Page name, is the article title as it should be on English Wikipedia; this will be a red link.

Remaining parameters are language code/page name pairs, where each pair defines the title of an existing page on a foreign language Wikipedia. One or more pairs may be included.[b] For example:

  • {{ill|Hooglede town hall|nl|Gemeentehuis van Hooglede}}Hooglede town hall [nl] – (one pair, links to Dutch page)
  • {{ill|Breton fairies|fr|Margot la fée|es|Hada Margot}}Breton fairies [fr; es] – (two pairs, links to French and Spanish pages)

If the page name on the non-English Wikipedia is the same as on the English Wikipedia, then those parameters can be left blank:

  • {{ill|Hanning Schröder|de}}Hanning Schröder –  – (the German page has the same title)
  • {{ill|Tobias Hedström|fr| |it| |pl}}Tobias Hedström [fr; it; pl] – (French, Italian, and Polish all have the same name as English)
  • {{ill|Karkinos|es|Carcinos|it|Carcino|pl| |pt}}Karkinos [es; it; pl; pt] – (Polish and Portuguese have the same name as English; Spanish and Italian are different)[c]

More examples, if needed edit

Red linked in English edit

  • {{ill|Teka-her|fr|es}}Teka-her
  • {{ill|Etruscan sculpture|es|Escultura etrusca|fr|Sculpture étrusque|it|Scultura etrusca}}Etruscan sculpture – (also ca, gl, pt)
  • {{ill|Siege of Delfzijl|de|Belagerung von Delfzijl (1813–1814)|fr|Siège de Delfzijl (1813-1814)|nl|Beleg van Delfzijl (1813-1814)}} – (also ru)

Blue in English (redirects) edit

These examples show the English link as blue, because a redirect exists:

  • {{ill|Gilchrist–Thomas process|fr|Procédé Thomas|de|Thomas-Verfahren|nl|Gilchrist-Thomas-converter|sv|Thomasprocessen}}Gilchrist–Thomas process
  • {{ill|Prehistory of Malta|fr|Préhistoire de Malte|es|Prehistoria de Malta|nl|Prehistorisch Malta}}Prehistory of Malta [fr; es; nl]  – (also ca, cs, ru)
  • {{ill|Rococo painting|pt|Pintura do Rococó|ca|Pintura rococó|es|Pintura rococó}}Rococo painting

Some non-Latin scripts among the links edit

Notes edit

  1. ^ This will link to some note sooner or later...
  2. ^ The vertical bar after the language code of the last language code/page name pair may be omitted, if the page name is also omitted because the foreign and English page names are identical. So for example, {{ill|Hanning Schröder|de|}} with the final vertical bar and {{ill|Hanning Schröder|de}} without it are the same thing. The vertical bar must be present in all pairs except for the last one.
  3. ^ Although no article on English Wikipedia exists for this title, the link is blue anyway because there's a redirect for it.
