William Goforth (doctor)

edit
  • ... that William Goforth was the first doctor in the frontier west to administer smallpox vacinations, award medical degrees, was delegated to write constitutions of Ohio and Louisiana, and went into business selling ginseng to China before becoming a judge and a surgeon and finally expiring at the young age of fifty?
  • Comment: I just stuck all of the possible DYK into one. I think it's catchy like that given the nature of his exploits.

  • I strongly doubt you mentioned all possible Hooks ;) I would support as well to use a (nicer) photo, the current looks like he had Graves' disease however. I am very supportive about the article for dyk, long enough, nicely written and a highly interesting man of different letters. But I ask you to polish the sourcing, its rather shortcut and as well to add the different Portal tags on the talk page. Serten (talk) 01:25, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
What? Don't you know a Picasso when you see one? .. I think he's just that bit (5 years after his death) before the period when folk like him got real photos taken. ~ R.T.G 10:39, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Kobell Franze was quicker. But I want another picture anyway;) Serten (talk) 19:37, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I've struck the first essay hook. The maximum allowed length of a DYK hook is 200 characters, and that one is 315. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 19:00, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I keep that in mind for my next review. Serten (talk) 19:37, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I have reduced the original hook to 199 193 characters in ALT2 so if you want to go with that hook it is available. I am not sure to be honest, wether the tirade of events or the mysterious manners would generate more clicks. Wouldn't it be good sometimes to send off two main page versions and find out which hooks were more appealing.  :). ~ R.T.G 08:16, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Turns out his father wrote the constitution in Ohio, not him. Roseohioresident (talk) 21:57, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

  • This article is new enough and long enough. Going for ALT1 which has an inline citation to a reliable source. Striking ALT2 which is incorrect in part (Ohio), relies on a "first to" that someone will seek to disprove, and has too many facts that all need inline citations. I saw no evidence of policy violations. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:44, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
