V766 Centauri

edit

HR 5171A

  • ... that HR 5171A (pictured) is the largest yellow hypergiant star ever discovered?

Created by Lithopsian (talk).2x expanded by Abhinav. Nominated by The Herald (talk) at 11:56, 15 March 2014 (UTC).

  • The article has not been expanded five times in the last few days. Additionally, I am confused as to why there is a redirect to the hook, unless you forgot to modify the link in the text. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 14:00, 15 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Still, no. The article is still way too short to have been expanded five times in the last five days. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 02:12, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
The Herald, expanding on what Kevin has stated, DYK Eligibility criteria says new articles are eligible if no more than 5 days old and have at least 1,500 characters of readable prose. This one was created Jan 20-24, 2014, at which time it was a 1,017 readable prose character stub. Expansion began on March 12, but 5X expansion would require it to be 5,085 characters of readable prose. At present, it is 2488 characters (0 words) "readable prose size. — Maile (talk) 13:23, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
  • (edit conflict) Comment: the standard required expansion for non-new articles is five times its length prior to the expansion. As the article was 1016 prose characters prior to Abhinav's expansion (I've added a DYKmake credit), it needs to be expanded to 5080 prose characters; at present, it's 2488 prose characters, meaning that another 2592 would need to be added before the article could qualify. Would anyone want to do that much work on further expanding the article? We can keep the nomination open for a little while if someone wants to; otherwise, it should be closed. • I am not in a mood to expand the article. But may be @Abhinav: can do it. Herald 06:28, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
No can do. The article is up to date after that last expansion by me. No significant material can be added now. (Can't we still have it up for DYK?.. It's good enough to be presented as a fact on its own. I wonder how many good articles we might have been discarding regularly because of so very-strict rules.) Abhinav (talk) 20:57, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Abhinav, I'm afraid it can't run on DYK at the present time. The expansion rules are quite strict. This, in part, is why there is now the ability to get articles to the point that they are indeed reviewed Good Articles, which is another avenue to qualify for DYK. The criteria for GAs is at WP:WIAGA; unfortunately, I don't believe the article is close to GA quality at the present time, but some day it may be, and can run then if so. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:36, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
It might. :) . Thanks for keeping up with all the good work. Abhinav (talk) 20:06, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
