Typhoon Nanmadol (2004) edit

Typhoon Nanmadol

  • ... that in 2004, Typhoon Nanmadol (pictured) became the first December tropical cyclone to strike the island of Taiwan in 108 years of record-keeping?
  • Reviewed: Not a self-nomination

  • Recently promoted to GA, long enough and well referenced. No close paraphrasing found on spotcheck. I have removed "[108 years] of record-keeping" from the hook since this is not mentioned in either of the citations given for the hook fact, and IMO the hook is just as interesting without it. Image is PD and looks good at thumbnail size. 97198 (talk) 04:14, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
What 97198 did is change in 108 years of recordkeeping to in 108 years. But that's not a good idea, because it strongly implies that there was an earlier event 109 years ago. I propose:
  • ALT1: ... that in 2004, Typhoon Nanmadol (pictured) became the first December tropical cyclone to strike the island of Taiwan in at least 108 years?

  • Well, this is slightly embarrassing - I reread the source and it does in fact mention when the record-keeping began (not as explicitly as I had initially expected). Thanks for the alt hook, EEng, but I think the original hook (which I have reverted to its first version, mentioning the records) is in fact good to go. 97198 (talk) 12:45, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
Either's OK. In future discussions it's probably not a good idea to make fixes to a hook "in place" once someone's commented, because it makes the discussion impossible to understand when others read it. EEng (talk) 12:56, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
