Shibuya Route
... that Tokyo's Shibuya Route (pictured) has a fictitious stairway to another reality?Source: "She had first become aware of the changes in the world a few days earlier when she took care of the oil field development specialist in a hotel room in Shibuya. She had left her taxi on the elevated Metropolitan Expressway No. 3, climbed down an emergency escape stairway to Route 246, changed her stockings, and headed for Sangenjaya Station on the Tokyu Line. On the way to the station, she passed a young policemen and noticed for the first time something about his appearance was different. That's when it all started. Which means the world switched tracks just before that." - The page referenced from 1Q84 is different based on the source. The paper copy I referenced in the article has the quote at page 107, while Google books has the quote at page 121. Sorry if that causes any confusion. ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 07:24, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
New enough at time of nomination, long enough, 0.0% result on the copyvio check, so all of that is fine. I'm concerned about the wording of the hook, though. While this is interesting, I'm not sure if it's appropriate because it's more about the novel than the Route itself? Perhaps if this was changed to "that Tokyo's Shibuya Route (pictured) is key to the plot of 1Q84 because it has a fictitious stairway to another reality?--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 14:11, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- @3family6: I think you're right. I've added your proposal as an alternate hook. ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 23:33, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Approved for ALT1, unless the original hook is compatible with DYK practice.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 01:02, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- @3family6: Per Rule H2, you cannot approve your own hook. Could another reviewer take a look at this? Yoninah (talk) 18:43, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- I came here to approve this, but I'd like to make sure two things first. Firstly, I don't have access to the Google Books snippet so I'm willing to assume good faith on the sourcing there, but just to be sure, is the quote that verifies the hook fact
She had left her taxi on the elevated Metropolitan Expressway No. 3
? I checked the other source but it doesn't mention either "Shibuya Route" nor "Metropolitan Expressway No. 3" by name. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:00, 7 September 2020 (UTC)- @Narutolovehinata5: That's right, the book quote is what is being used to verify the hook. ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 09:50, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- Noted. I'm willing to AGF on the novel source, but I think ALT1 will need to be rephrased further, to make it somewhat more obvious that the stairway is only in the novel and not in the real world (the "fictitious" adjective helps), but the current hook wording has a slightly in-universe feel to it especially if you remove "fictitious" from the hook. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 05:16, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: ALT2 has been added to address your concern of in-universe wording. ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 06:16, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Almost there, it just needs to be rephrased one more time to prevent repetition of "novel" (preferably keeping the former mention to make it clear that 1Q84 is one). Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 06:28, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, how does that ALT3 look? ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 09:22, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- The wording should be good to go, but I was wondering if a source could be provided to confirm that the Shibuya Route and the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway No. 3 refer to the same road, since the novel quote doesn't actually use the name "Shibuya Route" and that by itself may not be enough to verify the hook. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:57, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- I've replaced the tor.com source with a map from the Shuto Expressway company that includes notes its both the Shibuya route and route 3. Hopefully that's good enough to verify the name. Note that Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway is another transliteration of "首都高速道路". As is Shibuya Route or Shibuya Line from "渋谷線". ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 15:26, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification, but it appears the edit hasn't been done to the actual article? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:17, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Of course, I added it at the end of the "cultural references" section. ⑉⑉Mccunicano☕️ 09:55, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
