Sam Peffer

edit

Created by Philafrenzy (talk), Edwardx (talk). Nominated by Edwardx (talk) at 17:32, 23 March 2014 (UTC).

  • New (23rd), long enough, QPQ done. Is the source not available online? Also I'm not familiar with the MI6 source—do you frequently edit James Bond, and is MI6 considered a reliable source by the community? It appears closer to a blog than a reputable site and I can't find what I'd need on their editorial process. Please ping me if I don't respond. czar  23:03, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I've added a URL for Pfeffer's obituary in The Times, but apart from a short preview, it is subscription only. Edwardx (talk) 23:55, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
AGF for hook source behind paywall. I'm not crazy about the MI6 source reliability but eh I think that concern is outside the scope of the review. Good work czar  01:41, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I have the actual paper here (it was Saturday's Times) and can answer any specific questions. As for MI6, I must admit that it was so well done that I took it to be reliable. Certainly it agreed on the main points of the other sources. It's more than a blog but not an official James Bond site. It's a pity their articles don't state the author. Philafrenzy (talk) 01:44, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
  • None of the hook facts are sourced by the end of the article sentences in which they appear, a DYK requirement. Please be sure to add the appropriate sources in the proper places for Bond and both films. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:24, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I think Bond is well supported by the references throughout. I will add references for the others. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:02, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Withdrawing the tick—my error. The Swedish Nympho Slaves isn't in the ref (or on the Internet, after searching). Also the ref needs to immediately follow the sentence (see 3b). czar  22:09, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Added refs immediately after each point. Times obituary confirms the four Bond covers he did for Pan and that he did SS Experiment Camp. sampeffer.com confirms the artwork for Swedish Nympho Slaves and for good measure here's the actual published poster with wording which I won't be including in the article: http://horrorpediadotcom.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/tumblr_l1706mxice1qba26mo1_500.jpg. Is this OK now? Philafrenzy (talk) 01:21, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
I can AGF for the Times source, but sampeffer.com is not a reliable source. It could be anyone's blog. I recommend striking from the article the titles that aren't mentioned in a RS. czar  01:56, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
sampeffer.com is clearly his official site so I would have said it was a RS for him. They have all the artwork without lettering that is not available elsewhere and extracts from his biography, also not available elsewhere, for which they are seeking a buyer. Philafrenzy (talk) 02:50, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
It's written in third-person on a iWeb template and I see no indication it's any more his site than a fan's. Anyway, if his authorship of that film poster is notable, surely it will be mentioned in a reliable, independent secondary source. czar  03:23, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Revised hook, all of which can be verified by The Times obituary:

new hook gtg, AGF for offline source. ce'd to remove that the Bond covers were painted (uncited in the article) czar  18:39, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Can we have the painting back? It doesn't sound right without it. Exact quote in The Times is: "Between 1955 and 1967 he painted hundreds of covers for publishers including Arrow, Panther, Pan and Corgi. These most famously included early editions of Fleming's Bond novels, such as Casino Royale, Moonraker, From Russia with Love and Dr. No." Article changed. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:48, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

fine by me—checks out in article. AGF offline source czar  19:15, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
How can it be reworded so that it doesn't sound like Mirren starred in SS Experiment Camp? Philafrenzy (talk) 20:14, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
You could make it a parenthetical or just remove it—is it necessary to include it? czar  21:53, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
Added posters and comma. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:35, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Prose needs to be clarified if indeed the source says SSEC's art was a poster. czar  01:13, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
  • ALT3: ... that artist Sam Peffer painted covers for the James Bond paperback book series, as well as posters for the films Prisoner of the Cannibal God, and Hussy starring Helen Mirren?

Revised to one that was definitely a poster. Changed in article too with ref. Philafrenzy (talk) 01:44, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

To be clear, we can't include that he made the poster for Prisoner unless the WP article says that he made said poster. (It currently says he made "art". And we can't say he made said poster unless the cited ref says so as well.) Does that make sense? czar  02:17, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Changed. Book "British film posters: An illustrated history" is exclusively of posters, illustrates said poster on p. 132 and states he was the artist. Philafrenzy (talk) 02:26, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
ALT3 and ALT1 gtg (AGF for offline/paywalled sources) czar  10:38, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
