Lim Kok Wing

Created by Kingoflettuce (talk). Self-nominated at 08:36, 6 September 2022 (UTC).

  • New enough, long enough, no copyvio per Earwig and the hook is adequately cited. This nomination is good to go. Ashwin147 (talk) 17:22, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
    • @Kingoflettuce and Ashwin147: Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that he marketed himself that way? Or that his company did it for him? I mean, saying "depicted" sounds like there was at least some consensus for that title... theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 03:17, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
      • ALT1: ... that Lim Kok Wing's university marketed him as the "King of Africa"?
      • ALT2: ... that Lim Kok Wing was criticized for a billboard marketing him as the "King of Africa"?
Accurate yes, albeit less hooky. Will defer to what the reviewer finally decides. Kingoflettuce (talk) 09:37, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
The cited links are silent about who was behind putting up the billboard. There's no mention of this being a marketing tactic in either of them either. And depictions do not require consensus, do they? In the absence of any further citations, I think we should stick to the original hook. Ashwin147 (talk) 19:12, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
I'll concede the fact that the university did not say they put up the billboard in the first place; I do think that "depiction" implies noncontroversiality in a way that conveys us trying to be silly, rather than duly mentioning the backlash to something universally panned. That's all, I'm not gonna push further; I'll strike ALT1 and leave it there. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 08:53, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
