Leon Tomșa edit

  • ... that Leon Tomșa, who passed laws limiting Greek immigration to Wallachia, was reportedly a Greek oyster-monger? Rezachevici (1978), p. 73: describes Leon as pretins fiu al lui Ștefan Tomșa, în realitate un fost negustor grec de stridii ("self-proclaimed son of Ștefan Tomșa, in reality a Greek oyster-monger"); the hook here uses "reportedly" because other sources may not dispute Leon's claim. Prin aceste măsuri domnul căuta să obțină bunăvoința pribegilor (nu este exclus ca acestia să-și fi condiționat întoarcerea în țară de acordarea acestor hrisoave) ("An important role [in the quelling of Aslan's rebellion] was played by the two writs of 15 and 23 July 1631, whereby the Prince [Leon], taking advice from the great country assembly, orders the expulsion of 'foreign Greeks' (not including naturalized ones) and some tax exemptions [...]. Through these measures the Prince intended to obtain the goodwill of [rebellious] exiles (one might argue that the exiles conditioned their return on the promulgation of such writs)")
    • ALT1:... that in 1630s Wallachia, the allegedly Greek Prince Leon Tomșa passed anti-Greek legislation to appease a half-Greek rebel? See above, citations for main hook. On the rebel leader's origin, also Rezachevici (1978), p. 73: Conducătorul mișcării boierilor olteni din 1630 impotriva "grecului" Leon vodă, Asian vornicul (mare ban in primăvara lui 1630) era el însuși grec după tată ("The leader of the Oltenian boyars' movement against the 'Greek' Leon Voivode was Vornic Aslan (a Great Ban in spring 1630), was himself Greek on his father's side.)").

Length, history, reference and QPQ verified. No copyvio. Sources seem good, at least to someone who can't read Romanian. Language is neutral. Daniel Case (talk) 05:21, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
