Kamal Foroughi edit

  • ... that the family of Kamal Foroughi, a British-Iranian businessman jailed in Tehran's Evin Prison since May 2011, has described him as one of the "oldest and loneliest prisoners in Iran"?

Created by Plot Spoiler (talk). Self-nominated at 19:00, 14 February 2016 (UTC).

  • QPQ required since the nominator has more than five DYK credits. sst✈ 10:56, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
I'll try to get to it in the next 24 hours. Thanks! Plot Spoiler (talk) 13:52, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
@SSTflyer: QPQ done. Sorry for the delay! Plot Spoiler (talk) 18:29, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Even apart from the quoted parts, this article obviously exhibits some close paraphrasing that needs to be addressed before this could be approved. As far as I can tell, that's the only concern with this article right now. It's long enough, hook is interesting and sourced enough. No copyright violations anywhere and well within policy.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 06:33, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
  • This nomination is in danger of failing, because we are running out of time on this DYK. Please have this nomination show some progress in the next 48 hours, Plot Spoiler. —♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 15:23, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Full review needed, since there hasn't been one yet, and Amberrock hasn't returned. I did check with Nikkimaria, who confirmed that the close paraphrasing has been taken care of. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:05, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

  • Adequate sourcing: No - The sources are not reliable. For example, the hook of "oldest and loneliest" is attributed to his family who are probably not in a good position to know who is the loneliest prisoner in Iran.
  • Neutral: No - The article only presents the family's side of the story and so seems to be quite partisan.
  • Free of copyright violations, plagiarism, and close paraphrasing: Yes

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - Comes across as campaigning/promotional, contrary to WP:SOAP
QPQ: Done.

Overall: The Iranian authorities don't seem to be cooperating and without their side of the story, the article can't be neutral. That's tough for the subject but we're not in the business of righting great wrongs. Sorry. Andrew D. (talk) 15:37, 30 March 2016 (UTC) Andrew D. (talk) 15:37, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

I think this is a fundamental misreading of key policies, such as WP:Citing sources, WP:NPOV, and WP:SOAP. The article relies on established WP:RS, including leading British newspapers and Amnesty International. Because the Iranian gov't refuses to address the situation and tell "their side of the story" does not negate neutrality. Otherwise there might as well be a dictator's veto on human rights-related stories. Plot Spoiler (talk) 22:03, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
  • New reviewer needed to give a second opinion on the neutrality of both the article and the hook (does the latter come across as campaigning/promotional), and also the article's sourcing. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:44, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
  • I agree with Andrew D. Based on the very short bio, the pretense of this article is to cover the controversy surrounding his imprisonment. It only focuses on the details of one side of this story. By not necessarily being the fault of Wikipedia, since perhaps such sources are difficult to come across? Either way, it's best to avoid such an article for DYK. As for the hook, the parents are not neutral and not reliable. Another point is that I found it rather short. Although it's above the 1,500 character count, there's a slightly large lead and a lot of quotations. The biography is so short that maybe moving the article to a different name may even be appropriate here. Jolly Ω Janner 06:05, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
