  • The "Early life" and "After baseball" sections don't really look that necessary, unless you are going to be adding more information later: they could just all be merged into one section entitled "Life and career" or something of the sort: however if there is more to come, then I don't see a huge problem. Regardless of this, the article checks out fine for DYK. The hook could be a bit more hooky, but then and again, if you're interested in baseball, I guess it might be. I would suggest, per rule C2 that you mention baseball in the hook. Harrias talk 15:09, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Alt just discovered... ... that John Clapp played in 212 consecutive Major League Baseball games, primarily as a catcher? Albacore (talk) 16:32, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Alt2 ... that John Clapp, a catcher, played in 212 consecutive Major League Baseball games?
Alt 2 sounds interesting. With the record at 2,632 consecutive games (Cal Ripken, Jr) I wonder if it's enough? Rich Farmbrough, 22:53, 9 October 2011 (UTC).
I think so, considering Clapp played when there was little to no protective equipment for catchers. Albacore (talk) 01:05, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
  • Have the alts been approved? Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:25, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
I'm afraid my knowledge of baseball is not large, Frankie Hayes "caught 312 consecutive games" at the time a record. It's not clear whether "caught" means "was catcher at" or "Caught a player". Maybe the Baseball project could advise. Rich Farmbrough, 13:28, 16 October 2011 (UTC).
  • Hope they give feedback quickly. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:34, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm not sure I understand the alternate interpretation being proposed, but the excerpt indeed indicates that Hayes played as catcher in 312 consecutive games. isaacl (talk) 02:43, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Personally, I prefer the original hook, but would tweak it to read: "... that John Clapp was the inaugural manager of baseball's New York Gothams, which would become the modern-day San Francisco Giants?" -Dewelar (talk) 02:57, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Approve, please put in queue. Albacore (talk) 21:52, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
  • For clarity, based on above review. Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:36, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
