  • ... that the wasp Idiogramma elbakyanae (pictured) was named by a Russian entomologist to honor Sci-Hub founder Alexandra Elbakyan, although she was insulted and shut down Russian access to Sci-Hub? Source: [1] "In a strange turn of events earlier this week, Elbakyan – who could not be reached for comment – blocked access to Sci-Hub for Russian users, citing disputes between the nation’s scientists and her. In a letter that pops up when Russian users attempt to access Sci-Hub, Elbakyan cites harassment from Russian ‘liberal opposition’. She also mentions one particular incident that prompted her decision: a parasitic insect species being named after her in a recent paper in the Journal of Hymenoptera Research." [2] "The species is named in honour of Alexandra Elbakyan (Kazakhstan/Russia), creator of the web-site Sci-Hub, in recognition of her contribution to making scientific knowledge available for all researchers." [3] "Alexandra Elbakyan posted a letter explaining that the shutdown stemmed from harassment by those claiming to be the 'liberal opposition' and from her annoyance at a Russian research team that named a parasitic wasp Idiogramma elbakyanae."

  • Size and date check out; a check with Earwig's tool indicates no copyplag concerns (with or without discounting the direct quote in the original Russian provided on the issue); images are Commons and appear to be appropriately licensed; hook is intersting and cites back it up. Would suggest ALT1 as the best balance of information and brevity. Good to go. - The Bushranger One ping only 05:20, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks, The Bushranger. Do you have an image preference or shall that be left up to the promoter? Umimmak (talk) 05:54, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
  • If the wings weren't cut off by the cropping of the top one, that'd be the clear choice IMHO, but as it is I'd say Promoter's Option. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:05, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Yeah unfortunately the image source (File:Idiogramma_elbakyanae.jpg) didn't include the wings or antennae. It did include the ovipositor, but I had to crop it out to make a rectangle. Umimmak (talk) 06:50, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
