Gothic War (535–554)

  • ... that during the 6th century Gothic War Rome was besieged three times by the Goths, falling and being sacked twice? Source: Norwich, John Julius (1990). Byzantium: The Early Centuries. London: Penguin. ISBN 9780140114478, p. 218-9; 248; 249-50.

  • Hi Gog, review follows: Good article review passed 21 June; article is of a good length; article is well written and cited inline throughout to reliable sources; One of the image captions: "The Porta Asinaria, through which the East Roman army entered Rome." introduces information that is not provided (or referenced) in the article, it might be worth looking at this, particularly if you want to take the article further; QPQ has been done; hook is interesting and within policy; I don't know how common "sack" is to the average reader, it might be worth added a piped link to looting to make it clearer; the second sack of Rome (third siege) is not referred to in the article which only states "In the third siege of Rome in 549, Totila captured it again and made peace overtures but these were rejected by Justinian". Otherwise good to go - Dumelow (talk) 09:11, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi Dumelow. Your usual thorough job, thanks.
  • Image caption. I noticed that. It was there when I came to the article. I couldn't find a source, so I didn't incorporate it into the body of the article. But it seemed interesting and helpful to a reader, so I left it. Also it was a reminder to me to pick this up when I come to take it further. (Well picked up that I was planning on this; as you have probably noticed, this month I am concentrating on GAs.) I am going to leave it for now, unless it is a DYK deal breaker. No, that's not good enough; I have referenced the caption.
  • "sack" now linked to looting in ALT1 below. (DYK that there are six Wikipedia articles titled Sack of Rome?)
  • Article expanded to deal with the last two sieges more fully. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:24, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
