  • Selim I is not stated in the ref. Ref only says Sultan Selim. can be Salem I, II or III. Also, the ref does not explicitly say it a hajj pilgrimage. It calls the leader Emir hajj and the destination Kubbetu-l-hajj, but I could not find a RS by a Google search that they implies a Hajj. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:55, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Sultan Selim is widely used to refer to Selim I (since he's the first). The text is explicitly talking about Muslim pilgrims. Emir al-Hajj is the head of the caravan that goes every year from Damascus to Mecca. Qubbat al-Haj is a place near Damascus (well before Ghabaghib) where the caravan and the pilgrims assemble before setting out on their pilgrimage. It's not the destination.   • I read the source as validating the hook. It is a bit muddled, but seems to describe the route taken by the hajj pilgrims from Damascus as being via Kusweh, Dhul Nun, Sanamein, Tel Fir'aun to Ghabaghib, where the tower is. I don't think there is any doubt it is Selim I. There is more than one "hajj route" so ALT1 may be slightly more accurate:
