Four for McGovern

Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand
  • ... that during her Las Vegas shows in 1970–71, and during Warren Beatty's 1972 concert Four for McGovern, Barbra Streisand (pictured) pretended to smoke a joint? Waldman 2001, pp. 51–52: "In a return to Las Vegas in late 1970, Streisand incorporated her Stoney End and Barbra Joan Streisand material, and even spoofed her new, hip image on stage with an allusion to smoking pot. Taking a toke of a faux joint, Barbra pretended to get high as she explained why people shouldn't rely on drugs or booze for relaxation. Streisand immortalized this routine forever when she performed it on her next album, Live Concert at the Forum." ISBN 9780806522180

You hooked me, I'm willing to review eventually. Preview: it takes too long for the hook to arrive at the topic. Consider to mention the concert first, then perhaps "as ... in Las Vegas before", and perhaps drop Beatty who will get all the clicks if preceding the concert. See you later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:22, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Substantial article on fine sources, offline sources accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. The image is licensed and shows well. It matches the hook fine, only I have two problems with it. Firstly, it puts Streisand in drug-pretending light without saying that - if I read it right - she did that as a warning NOT to take the stuff. Secondly, I think it's a bit unfair not to mention (and show) the other three, so perhaps better show none. I'm afraid many readers may not know who McGovern is, but perhaps that can't be helped. Open to suggestions, or defense of the original, reworded, perhaps

Thanks for the review. Your ALT1 wording is superior – much better flow.
Regarding what Streisand was really saying about marijuana: I don't think the skit could be described as 100% against. The skit contained too many sympathetic elements for that.
Regarding "unfair", yes, I agree, but the DYK format doesn't allow a four-panel image large enough to show all four performers with sufficient resolution. Binksternet (talk) 16:21, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
fine, thank you for explaining. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:31, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, here's what the image might look like if we went with four artist portraits. The image of Quincy Jones is not contemporary... He looked younger back in 1972, and was sporting bigger hair[1] plus a circle beard. Binksternet (talk) 17:07, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for trying, it's cute. I have the opposite for the Leon Fleisher nom: the only pic we have is 1963s, but the fact plays in 2004. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:34, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
